It's really gone down the toilet.

Here's a good example, a NOBLES TUNIC is now selling on Carbuncle for 250k, my friend had to save up 1.5 MIL to buy that on Remora about 2 years ago, crafters are losing money from crafting, and so more people are turning to NPC stores.

That is one of the things I was talking about in the other topic. Even if I had heard 1.5 my jaw would drop. I spent something like 16 mil when I got one for my friend.

But it seems like crafting must not be as great as it used to be. Simple farming would be better, things that you can stack up.

I wouldnt say its down the toilet, I think finally prices are reasonable for what an Item is really worth.

For a lot of items, half the reason is simply the demand is not there anymore.
So many people have clothcraft at 100, and just about any sky LS can get Shining Cloth easy now. Pretty much everyone has sky these days, and Genbu can be killed with just a few players.

Same goes for Scorpion Harness, and Haubergeon. And Kirin's Osode going for 2million in bazaars now lol. Back in the day you didnt even dare to sell an Osode, and if you did it was for a lot of gil.

But over time, we've got better gear.
Things like relic weapons, both the originals and the ToAU ones still cost hundreds of millions of gil to get. Kraken club still sells for 10s of millions of gil. Salvage body armor cost around 10-12million gil to get crafted. New Ixion and other WotG HNM drops sell for a lot of gil, because of the rarity.

So the thing is, you probably could farm enough in a few days to get everything that was top tier years ago. While the current most epic gear would still take a lot of time/money to get.

I'll admit though, I loved farming Giant Bird Plumes when CoP first came out and selling them for 600k a stack, making millions a day because few people had the access at that moment in time... but since most people now have atleast the first 3 promy missions done now and can farm them thier self, its a little unreasonable to expect them to still sell for so much considering the drop rate and easy level of the mobs.

The people that say it sucks now are just upset they arent making the easy millions they once did. Its still totally possible to make good gil crafting, just a lot more work/research, theres a few in my LS that only craft for gil and do just fine.

It seems like the most popular end game items are almost all rare/ex now days so I understand that as one of the reasons a lot of things are lower in price. So strange to see so many rare/ex items btw, back in the day we just had one piece from each god and the three kings. Now there is like twenty kings with multiple items per mob.

But still some of the buyable items, that are still used situational are still surprisingly cheap. Sniper Rings just two years ago used to be 10mil at the very least. Or E bow which is still one of the best bows out there used to be 40mil. Now I couldn't find anything, even the best new items, that cost over 10.

Which is great in one way, because it is accessible to more people. But it just disappointed me because I was always a farmer and I loved having other people drool over my expensive items and armor. Now that it is accessible to everyone, not much seems like an achievement. I see they even changed the drop rate of dynamis stuff as well.

lol I remember I started playing this game the day it came out in the US. I thought things were expensive back then... but I remember people talking about how FFXI's real world economy actually took a dump. It may be alright for players who started when I did... but not for any newcomers.

I think it's quite the opposite. For the newcomers the economy is amazing. Things are waaaay cheaper then it was for when the long time players were coming up. To start now or within the past two-three years would make the game seemingly a breeze.

Ohh! I remember the PAINFUL price of the Nobles Tunic!

However, thankfully I got my Clerics in Dynamis. I know you have to wait for that one (Depending on the LS Dynamis rules) but after a while the RMT had jacked the economy soo much that when I was playing at the start, the tunic was selling for 14MILLION!

I cried many tears!

I think it's because mostly the BCNM's are way oversimplified these days. I mean I remember when Escape and Refresh used to cost so much more but now they sell for like 7k each on the AH or even less. It's crazy.

I am getting the 360 version for Final Fantasy XI but if I do not like it chances are I will sell it. I just want to try it out but its sucks you have to pay.

I'm not sure that selingl it would do any good. In order to play people need an ID code which comes with the game. So either way, they would still need a new code so they might as well buy a new game all together. Thus it would be hard to find somebody to find to buy a used FFXI game.

Its simple economics based off a supply-demand curve.

Years ago items for rare gear were hard to come by, thus they have a low supply and a high demand. This caused for high prices. Now that there are more of them around, we can see the price of items going down. Whats more the gear that require these items are already saturated in the market, causing prices to drop even further.

Its economics 101

Oh and starting now is a little tough money wise. Before people used to make a lot more money on crystals. Up to 500% more, and at that time silk, beehive chips, and other highly farmed materials were the same price as they are now. Essentually new players have LOST an income item. However as they reach higher levels, 20-50, the economy becomes more of their friend. Because it is in these levels where most of your money comes from farming items and not crystals anyway, and with the lower cost of the 'necessary' gear pieces, well it makes players have to farm less 8D

I wouldn't know alot, seeing as I only started around a year and a half ago,
but the prices have definatly dropped since then, then again, some havn't.

I remember when I first started in San d'Oria that I used to farm Fire Crystals and sell them at the Auction House for around 1-2k now they're something like 500g for a stack. ><

It's better for new players, but not so good if your a crafter.

I don't have alot of money anyway, and I'm finding it hard just to get 600k for a Vermillion Cloak. I can remember a while ago, though, that a Vermillion Cloak used to be 800k so it's lowered quite abit.

Like it's been said, I don't think it's gone down the toilet, but things are just a little more affordable now.

For me on a personal level "More Affordable" is down the toilet. Crystals used to be 10K+ and that Vermillion Cloak you mentioned, I never seen one drop below 10mil.

I personally don't like when everything is accessible to everybody...because that is not how the real world is. Those that put more time and effort into getting the money should be able to get the higher priced things. I guess I am just bum hurt though because I focused most my gaming on farming and the things that were rare and extremely hard to have back then, are affordable to new players that don't put any effort into getting them.

There is still a huge gap between what is accessible to everyone and what takes a lot more time/effort(and gil) to get. The thing is that Vermillion Cloak and other uber gear from back in the day is no longer worth the 10million it cost. That cloak now is just something some mages grab on the way to 75 and eventually replace with something better like AF2,Ixion,Dalmatica,Murdak,Morrigans to name a few

I know that, I have been getting on quite a bit lately and I see the prices. And even the "Great" gear of now that is buyable is still laughable in price. Anybody with even an ounce of knowledge at making gil could deck out their character in less then a week.

Most of the new uber gear cannot be bought, but salvage body is still around 12million(25-30 for set)plus farming all the pieces. On ifrit anyway. New relics cost more than the old ones ever did. I can only think of a handfull of new highend gear that can be sold other than the Hachiryu Haramaki and the lowest I've seen asked for it is 25million.

I don't think you fully read what I was saying. But you still proved what I was saying though. Rare/ex gear can be bought as well anyway, there are plenty of Linkshells on most servers that are greedy enough to sell great gear for gil, most the time in order to fund relics. Top gear can be bought, and when even the average joe can farm between 1-3 mil a day that runs up to 7-21mil a week. The items are very easy to obtain.
