No, this isn't a cheap story barely pertaining to politics.

FFX is one of the few games in the series to touch upon the subject of religion. Most of my attention was drawn to Wakka's relationship with Rikku and the Al Bhed. He was being prejudice to them on a religious basis. When I noticed that, I was wondering if this had anything to do with the attacks of 9/11. What do you think?

Oh, and let me point beforehand that I don't remember what time the game came out, so you'll excuse me if the game was published before the attacks happened.

Though it's still an interesting theory. Thoughts?

yeah its an interesting theory to be honest cant remember when it came out either

when i thought about Wakka's relationship with Rikku and the Al Bhed 9/11 didn't come to me but racism in general (well i guess that 9/11 is sort of a extreme form of that right  sorry if that doesn't make sense I've been up way too long and I'm tired -_- ) i got the sense that most of the Yevonits (sp?) were to a degree (even a little bit cos they were following the teaching of yevon and the Al Bhed didn't) racists towards the Al Bhed and visa versa

what i really like was the fact that you got to know both Wakka and Rikku and you saw both sides and how Wakka came round (in FFX-2 Wakka names his new born son Vidina meaning 'future' in Al Bhed)

Although now i think about it wasn't it cos Wakka's brother died fighting sin useing Al Bhed machina the main reason why Wakka hated the Al Bhed so much?

i was goning to say something else but i forgot  again sorry if it doesnt make sense i need to get some sleep

Actually it came out in 07/19/01 in Japan, 2 months before the attack but your probably thinking 12/17/01 was the release date, 12/17/01 is the US release date

that means it has nothing to do with 9/11 even if the release date was 17/12/01 then is probably impossible for them to take 9/11 and use it towards wakka's relationship with rikku and the al bhed (does that make any sense?)

although its still an iterseting thought and deffintly gets you thinking

The relation between Wakka and RIkku is only a small part of the game.

I feel the actual hidden meaning is Nuclear Weapons.

Machina Destroyed their world, Nuclear Weapons will do the same to ours.

Machina Destroyed their world, Nuclear Weapons will do the same to ours.

It wasn't only machina or Sin but by differing society. As with all technological advances, it will become twisted by a certain person or group and used as weapons. Not enough effort and time are spent toward improving the quality of living.

Wakka, in the beginning is comparable to an ignorant American. After 9/11, the non-Arabs looked upon any one who resembled being an Arab with fear, disgust and disdain. Not all Arabs are Muslims. Not all Muslims are fanatical extremist.

I think the discovery of Nuclear energy was good overall. We have learned about atomic fusion, fission, radiation and most importantly nuclear energy is not the best route to go.

Nukes won't destory this world because nuclear weapons are just tools. It's the same with biological/chemical weapons. Just tools used by men to kill men. This will continue until no human being is left on the face of this planet.

Neverminding the release date, the story and concept have no link whatsoever.

Exactly that. Do you know how long they had already developed the story line before the game actually came out? Years....lol So no correlation there.

I recall they started development on FFIX, FFX and FFXI after the release of FFVIII so I'm not surprised.

This is an interesting topic question to bring up, but if 9/11 in all reality could not have affected the plot-line in FFX at all. It happened just a few months before the game released. SquareSoft back then would NOT have had enough time to change the story to reflect that in anyway. It's just not possible to do it that quickly int eh Video Game developing business. Nice theory though; definitely something to think about.
