here's some tips
you get it in Narsha in the world of ruin. You need Locke to open the doors. When you get it try to equip it and a ribbon on one character. Go to Solitude island (where Celes fed Cid) before you fight check your exp. Since fights on the island give 1 exp all you have to do is add 255 (which ishow many battles it takes to turn the shield) to your exp and then you know when the shield will turn. From there you can just keep track.
Example : EXP 12000 - to turn it would be EXP 12255 so when you hit 12255 it should be a paladin shield. just keep count.
its great cause the shield teaches Ultima s you can go ahead and get the Ragnorak sword instead of the esper. If your playing FFVI Advanced get the esper cause you can get the sword later.
