Put on your tinfoil hats, boys and girls. I mentioned the other day in this thread: "How many episodes my theory " that I feel like we may be being misled by the 7R devs about what all is included in Part 1, and now I think it's even more possible. In a reddit thread by zefhar , they point out how the 2015 trailers all used the "Bombing Mission" theme as background music. Then suddenly, for the E3 extended trailer the song that plays is the Main Theme-- AKA the world map song.

This could just be random editing, but it feels rather deliberate. Especially since the World Map theme is considered to be "Cloud's Theme"... and yet it plays when it shows Aerith, the character that is "called by the wind" to leave Midgar and begin her Cetra journey. It made me think that maybe playing the World Map theme song while showing Aerith could either hint at her journey or maybe that FF7R part 1 isn't /just/ Midgar.

Why would Square hide the fact that Part 1 isn't just Midgar? Because it's the ultimate way to fend off leaks. Just think, if a credible link comes out and says literally anything about outside of Midgar, nobody in the fandom would believe the leaker because the devs have been telling us that part 1 is "just Midgar". Nomura loathes leakers, and it would be a great tactic to use, I think.

Anyway, I thought the reddit thread was interesting and I'm kind of hoping that it does mean Part 1 isn't just Midgar.

now you :pooley:

I like how guarded Square Enix are being. It means that we are more likely to be surprised by certain things. I'd be happy with a lot of it being held back until the release itself.

For so, so long all we had was footage of the opening bombing mission, which led to jokes (which I partook in) that the final boss of Part 1 would be the Guard Scorpion... But we've now seen a lot more of the game. All of it in Midgar, of course, but so much more which fans will recognise from the original game. It gives us enough to discuss and speculate over (particularly the new elements they are introducing into the plot), and they are so far showing us this without ruining it all.

I'm not sure if Part 1 will extend beyond Midgar or not. I'm still a bit confused about their statements at present. Part 1 will be two discs, they said. Does that mean a installation disc and a playing disc? Or does it mean Disc 1 is Midgar, Disc 2 is something else? Or are both discs Midgar?

If Part 1 really does go beyond Midgar I really doubt it'll go too far though. Maybe enough to show the player any world map / free-roaming system they've developed (in a restricted area). Maybe we'll experience the Nibelheim incident flashback at Kalm, ride a chocobo and gaze with horrified admiration at the Midgar Zolom kebab, etc.

Maybe there can be new sidequests in this area followed by a more appropriate end boss.
I did think about the end boss for Part 1 recently... If it ends at the very end of Midgar and takes the same boss from the original game, that would make the final boss Motor Ball (the machine which chases you to the end of the road and tries to mince you). While this could be an impressive looking boss (and could be made a very difficult and scary one in the Remake) it lacks the character to be a satisfying final boss.
So I suspect that we must go at least a little bit beyond this scene and reach a conclusion elsewhere. That or Sephiroth taps Cloud on the shoulder for a private word and they have another topless showdown (unbeknownst to the rest of the party as only Cloud can see him, maybe)...

About the tune itself though, I'd suspect that there would be complaints that the game wouldn't sound right if they don't include the main FFVII theme somewhere in the Remake. I imagine that they'd find somewhere to slot it in within Midgar even though it never played during the Midgar section in the original (which is something I'd never noticed and I find that interesting). The track is simply a recognisable ambassador for the entire game, so it would be extremely important for marketing purposes.
