Ff7 First Soldier and upcoming Ever Crisis (AndroidGaming)

Well this was short-lived.

(I've known about this news for days but been really busy, etc).

On the one hand, the battle royale format of the game and the canon-defying costumes/accessories did not attract me to this at all. And the reuse (or 'demakes') of Remake maps for a game set 20 years before FFVII did not impress me a great deal (justified, or so I understand, by having the VR's algorithm calculate what it thinks the future of Midgar would look like, apparently). I'd rather see what Midgar actually looked in the past, and for that to be different enough to the contemporary setting of Remake. What little I saw of this game did not seem to fit.

On the other hand, it is never a good thing to see a Final Fantasy game cast into the void.

Apparently there are some cool lore nuggets that some people have picked out that one day I'd hoped to look into when I have more time. Apparently people are already on the ball with archiving stuff from the game before it goes, thankfully. It would be a sad loss to FFVII historians if that was to be lost to the fandom forever. Due to its inaccessibility it'll be like Before Crisis all over again, or, worse, like the Dirge of Cerberus online mode.

But I guess there is an even bigger concern here. It reminds us of the vulnerability of these sorts of games. For example, what if they were to pull the plug on Dissidia Opera Omnia one day too? That game would be quite a loss to the community. Again, I haven't played it myself, but I planned to, and what I have seen has fascinated me.

So rest in peace, First Soldier. You were the first soldier of the FFVII Remake project to die, I guess. :beelzebulbble:

It was nearly impossible for me to consider The First Soldier canon. The technology was too advance. More advance than Crisis Core and Before Crisis.

Meant to post this a few days ago, but here is the latest trailer for Ever Crisis.

Some interesting inclusions there. Including some Remake ones. And Young Sephiroth is a bit intriguing though I do have concerns.

And while I'm interested in seeing what this has to offer in terms of lore, etc, I am not so sure that this style of game itself will be my cup of tea when it comes to enjoyment. But time will tell..
