Is it just me who think it's going to be long and tedius levelling up on it? From what i've seen of the demo you have to wait for the bar to fully charge, then strategically choose 3 different attacks to chain together which will only effect 1 enemy, as well as AOE spells etc. But the whole process looks... Really long and time consuming, which would make grinding even more painfully dull.

Is it just me thinking it'd take forever even to level up and such with that type of battle system? Especially, going by the demo the monsters can take quite a hit.

I'm not bothered about the difficulty but the time length to do things looks really dull and might make random battles even more annoying. (if they even exist, which is unlikely in areas like the demo showed)

You have to remember that the demo was as it was back in 2007 or w/e so a bit will have been changed, but from what I've seen it looks like it's more about style than anything, especially since you get ranked at the end D; The Last Remnant battle system looked quite long and boring in the previews but it's actually amazingly fun. I can see FFXIII being more fun than every other FF game, personally I found the turn based battles extremely boring, either way it'll be nowhere near as boring as FFXII's battle system. :wacky:

True that xD well here's hoping, i'd get bored stiff going through the same 3 attacks and get about 20 exp >_> hopefully style will bring in more exp (why does this remind me of DMC? >_>) as well as money and items. But GOD if the battle system is the same as the demo i'll destroy the controls in rage and boredom I swear :gasp:

Rofl xD I think the higher the rank the better the reward will be, I think I read something from GamesCon that the battles get harder or something the higher your rank so you'd think harder monsters = higher reward? :gonk: I don't know whether it was the rank that increased the difficulty but I'm certain something does :ahmed:

There ya'll go again, trying to precipitate the awesomeness of square enix. I think it's a pompous and presumptive dick move to do that. Square makes the games we know and love, so why try to insult and undermine their work when you have no solid ground to present such prejudice? I hate it when people do this.

But if we assume that rank DOES give you tougher monsters, then technically that can affect the overall gameplay (get low ranks for a while, then fight final boss, for instance)

@FFamran I'm actually excited for FF13, I just think IFthis happens the way it does in the demo it's going to kill the fun if this happens every 5 seconds. :gonk: hopefully they put in an option to change the way battles are done (ATB style and this new one, perhaps?)

It'd make it more strategic which in turn would make it a difficult game, I know that some people commented that it's a lot harder than the likes FFX/XII etc with a fair few people dying in the demos. I'm just guessing with this whole Last Remnant thing XD But if it is like TLR then I can't comment to much having only clocked 2 hours or so in it thus far but I remember Mits advised me to do the odd thing as whilst you level up along with harder monsters your strength etc doesn't level up at the same rate as the monsters so you have to be careful in balancing it.

They need to release more info, demos etc. This is all far too complex trying to discuss it :ahmed:

I am not sure about the time consuming leveling.
And there are no random battle ecounters as far as I saw in the demo.
And it seems that there are no really that many battles ,though the demo is both old and short. Maybe there will be long battles but they will always give a lot of EXP if you do high rank. So you'll just have to do each battle perfectly and you'll level up quickly or something. Sounds nice, much better than just spamming "Attack" and doing tons of battles.

As for commands input, I think you can input them before the guage is full, but they take effect only after it is full. I may be wrong though.
I think I saw some kind of "short commands" thing. Maybe you can create your own command which is built of 3 commands. For example creating command named "Magic Combo", which you think you'll use a lot, and it does [Fire] [Ice] [Lighting] in that order.
So you can select one command and still use 3 skills. I am really not sure about this!

I just had a quick look at the demo and it looks like it follow FFXII that way, as I think you could only attack in that after a certain amount of time. But from what I've read FFXIII has advanced on that massively and is much more action packed and far quicker, if not the quickest of any Final Fantasy titles in terms of battle systems (bar Dissidia for obvious reasons). It look's quite epic, especially when you think that was an old version of it :ryan:
