I figure a number of us will be playing the game at a similar pace (a few hours a day) and wanted to know what everyone is thinking about the story line going forward or initial impressions. If you are further than the rest of us just start a new thread and we can post thoughts there when we catch up.

Obviously spoilers here so watch out.

After watching the opening FMV & fighting the first few battles what are peoples thoughts?

I'll get it started with the thing that stuck out to me most.
The very last thing Lightening said before going to Serah's POV- it gave me the impression that she thought she was going to die.

I don't think we are allowed to post spoilers outside of the spoiler discussion thread. A moderator will probably merge this thread with this one.

Yes the first time I played the game, I also felt that as if Lightning is going to die too.

Introduction
I got the same feeling about Lightning. Pretty crazy scene.

I am just leaving the first town.
I enjoyed the "subtle goodbye" that Serah got, but can't help but wonder if it implies that she has sealed her own fate in doing so. The tone is lighter than XIII was, but yet not all at the same time.

I hope they don't merge it, as I don't want to see spoilers from things not reached yet, like clearly this thread is for thoughts on Episode 1.

Agree-
the whole she is the only one remembering, certain events makes me think that alternate(branching) realities will play a big part- in which case there can be no "true" ending because it would just be a different universe...

Still a bit confused as to how everything happened in the three years between the stories. Also the punk rock music is KILLING ME :rage:

Currently in Bresha Ruins 005AF

At some points in the game, most of that will be explained.

I don't know why many people love otherworld from FFX so much and then suddenly bash crazy chocobo and limit break lol.

Im not a fan of the crazy rock music either in this game( and for the record, Otherworld is my least favorite track from X, cant stand it)

back to the thread tho, my friend got it and ive been playing it at his house, and so far so good, im not feeling the characters, but the gameplay has been enjoyable.

Currently Yaschas Massif 10AF,
I must say the mechanic about dodging Behemoths in the dark is pretty nice, and it meshes in with the eclipse story well. I think that the Paradox's provide easily laid out goals in each point along the timeline. Based on the way it has been set up I assume this will continue as I work forward. I also find it quite interesting that the Fal'cie on Pulse are still functioning as if nothing happened and Pulse continues on in it's natural cycle.

Regarding XXX
Pre Paddra Ruins
I like that Hope has been a major player in Pulse research driven by his desire to find the members of the first game that have all seemed to have disappeared, including Sazh along with his son. I really do see where the DLC could be set up regarding him since he suddenly vanishes between 3AF and 10AF.

I actually took a trip to 300AF before heading to 10AF
I tried 3 times to fight that flan with Snow, tweaking my set up greatly each time. I'm hoping that by heading to 10AF I'll be naturally strong enough to fight the flan. I could not keep up to the healing that it employs, though it helped me greatly in practicing battle tactics against a tough fight. I wish I had about 10 Paradigms to work with instead of 6 lol.

I beat that thing on the 4th try- and then got whooped by a regular group of flans before I even got my first round off.
So I went back and fought around Bresha05, got to the next crystarum level then went back to 300sun.
After getting a little ways into 300 sun
I went as far as moogle throw
but that area is too tough, so I am doing the 10yasc now

Get a Pulsework Knight (it's a Sentinel) from Bresha Ruins -005 AF- and get it up to level 20 (max). Then set a Paradigm Deck for RAV/COM/SEN. Also SAB/SYN/SEN and MED (or RAV)/MED (or COM)/SEN (<- If you have Medic unlocked for Serah or Noel.). It takes a few minutes to beat, but it worked for me.

I am now about halfway through episode 3 (I only get a chance to play about 3 hours a day),
plot based-
Lots of talking about how changing future changes past, and now Serah wants to save the world.

overarching
It feels like a contrivance that Serah is like Yule, ( in that she can guide people through time) I don't even think that aspect of the storyline is needed. It is just a too convenient plot move.

I am just shy of episode/chapter 5. If you have not gotten that far- spoiler alert.

Does anyone get the coliseum? I got the DLC and it doesn't even use that one its in a different space-time, so what is the point of the one they included in the story line?

I think it was sorta weak that they had Hope & Alyssa travel in time using another method- why not just let them be sucked into a distortion?

Vile peaks:
I saw both the Sazh & Lightening and was disappointed by both.

What the hell? Sazh said nothing of any substance or value he didn't add back story or explain anything. At least lightening gave that excuse about- you know fighting a boss

Just about to enter Academia 4XXAF, Episode 4. Spoilers for 400AF/200AF.
I started Ep 4 confused as all hell because I had unlocked Augusta Tower 400AF beforehand. Serah already knowing what the terminals were all about made no sense. Once I got back on track though it all fell together.

From what I understand, the Proto Fal'cie was hell bent on our destruction the second we crossed into Academia due what we were destined to yet do (locked in Augusta to learn it's secret), thus creating the alternate Caius to lure us into death. Yuel of that era chose to help us escape, putting us on the path to Augusta as the Machine Caius predicted.

Still not sure quite how we defeated the Proto Fal'cie, but hoping to get that cleared up when I start Academia 4XXAF. Noel is starting to grow on me, and Serah is becoming badass.

Yeah, spoiler about beating the proto-fal'cie
What you did was yell back in the past, I guess via distortion type deal-never really explained it too well, and told Hope not to create the proto-fal'cie to begin with.

Alyssa spoiler right before you leave academia 4XX,
Mog had that weird encounter with her.

spoiler New Bresha Ruins sidequest (I have not done academia 500yet).
after fighting gogamog again and doing ring quests. you learn that the guy was pushed into a distortion to kill him etc, I wonder if Alyssa is evil?
