~~This Battle Strategy is for the Hell Wyrm in the Sochen Cave Palace.~~

Location:
Sochen Cave Palace. Enter from the Tchita Uplands and walk to the Mirror of the Souls. You must take the exit that is all the way to the right. Walk strait up through the Falls of time into Destiny's March. Keep walking strait and open the Ancient Door thats near the end of the hallway. Open the door to you're left {With back at the door you just opened} and go clockwise through the hallways. Only open the doors that say "Door of Hours" {Get it? Clockwise : Door of Hours as Hour Hand : Clock} . Keep going clockwise until a message appears telling you a door has unlocked. Now go and save in the Skybent Chamber so if you get a Game Over you won't have to do all this over again. If you follow my stragity correctly though you won't die.

True Reputation:
~ Easy battle
~ One of the most longest battles in Final Fantasy history
~ Wyrm absorbs all elements

False Reputation:
~ Battle takes almost 2 hours {Without my help, it would be true!}.
~ The most difficult battle in Final Fantasy 12
~ The longest battle in Final Fantasy history

~ Wyrm is immune to all elements

STRONGLY Recommended Requirements:
~ Have at least three people at level 65. You shouldn't try to do it lower because the only reason why you would want to fight this is to unlock the last hunt, which you need to be at least level 70 to battle.
~ Have three White Masks
~ Three Golden Skullcaps
~ Three Maximillians
~ Two Bubble Belts
~ One Sage's Ring
~ Two of the best two-handed swords you have {If you haven't found any better two-handed swords than Save the Queen, then buy two at the Port of Bolfenheim}
~ One one-handed sword {so you can equip a shield}
~ Demon Shield
~ Completed License Board
~ Ninety-Nine {99} Bacchus's Wine
~ Ninety-Nine Gold Needle's
~ Ninety-Nine Remedies
~ Ninety-Nine Ethers

! Note: What! I have to bring 99?! Yes, because there will be no time for Magicks like Esuna or Berserk. And yes, the battle will take so long you will need this many. Buy the Ethers at the hidden Baknamy Store in the Necrohol of Naubudis. Can't Afford? Then you're not ready to fight the Hell Wyrm. As usual, toward the end of the game, you will be able to afford anything you want. And if you're truly at the end of the game, then you're level is high enough. High Level = High Gil. As they say, "Never attempt Something exquisite, If You're bank doesn't need a Calculator when you Visit"

Gambits:
Don't try to be too fancy with Gambits in this battle, because it's all about strength and speed, and is nontechnical. You'll really only need 3 Gambits in this order;

~ Ally: Status KO = Arise
~ Self = Bacchus's Wine {Only on two in the party}
~ Self = Bubble {The one who doesn't have the Bacchus's Wine}
~ Foe: Nearest = Attack
Turn all other Gambits OFF. Everything else you'll need to do in battle is going to have to be done manually, so best to turn the Battle Mode to Wait.

Strategy:
I used Vaan, Basch, and Penelo, who were level 70. You don't have to use these three people, but I am just going to use their names so it's easier to imagine the battle in you're head. Vaan and Basch are equipped with the two-handed swords, have the Gambit Self = Bacchus's Wine, and are wearing Bubble Belts. Penelo will have the sword, Demon Shield, and Sage's Ring equipped, and the Gambit Self = Bubble You might want to imagine that Penelo is not even there in terms of attacking, because she has very little chances of doing it.

Cast Float before you head back down from the Save Crystal. Do not run into battle with every good status in the book, because he will simply strike you're party down with death one at a time. He won't when you only have a few good status effects though. Almost like he knows . . . Anyway, the only thing that should be by you're HP Bar is the Bubble symbol and mabey the Float symbol if it is still in affect.

Wow! Pretty red lights!! Vaan and Basch will immediately start hacking away at Hell Wyrm. In return, Hell Wyrm will start hacking away at you. He usually focuses on one character at a time. Penelo will constantly be using Curaja. The amount of time it takes to re-cast it is the same amount it takes for Hell Wyrm to get a characters health down again. When you find a point in time where Penelo is free and you're characters health isn't too low, cast either Hastega or Protectga. Protectga is more recommended if, obviously, they aren't already Protected. If you have time, try shellga too. Hell Wyrm casts a variety of Magicks too, and they can be pretty powerful. Especially Darkga. Lucky Penelo, she has the Demon Shield.

Hell Wyrm uses Judgment. When it shows up in the log that it is about to use it, quickly equip you're White Masks {Judgment is Holy based}. It's not likely, but it also can cause Stop on 1 or more people. If all three are Stopped, switch Penelo with a reserve {Ashe is the closest}, and have her use a Remedy on Penelo {Who will be in reserve now, naturally}. Change Ashe back to Penelo and immediately use remedies on the rest of the party. All should be back to normal.

If Ashe gets knocked out when you're trying to cure Stop on Penelo, take out another reserve and RETREAT using the door right behind you {assuming it's behind you because the battle doesn't move much once you enter the room}. I highly recommend retreating instead of just using a second reserve to cure Stop on Penelo. Stop doesn't affect all characters too often, but it happens at least 3 times. If all you're reserve members are knocked out and you're party is Stopped, It's over. Remember, retreating does not reset Hell Wyrm's HP. Cure/Revive all you're party, switch back to Penelo, turn you're gambits off, and dispel you're party. You're doing this, so when you go back to fight, all you're status affects won't be close to running out. Turn gambits on and let them do there stuff, then go ahead and cast ONE good status on you're party, and return to the battle, continuing where you left off. We can call this the "Retreat Process".

Another trick Ring Wyrm has up it's sleeve is "Stone Breath", which has been in Final Fantasy for ages, so I'm sure you know exactly what it does. Treat with Gold Needle or Remedy manually. Or you can take the Retreat Process, but that takes too long. Don't try to have a Gambit with something like Petrify = Remedy. Since it takes a while for the Petrify countdown to get to 0, it's not a priority. Curing you're Allies is Penelo's number 1 Priority.

If Penelo's MP is low, use the retreat process. Have everyone throw Ethers all over her or use an Elixir/Mega-Elixir. {Don't save all those Elixir's for the final battle, because once you're at the final battle, the Mist is so dense that the "Warmage" Augment will fill you're MP to max. So use the Elixir's/Mega-Elixir's on other battles.}

Result:
The battle will run smoothly, because you will know what to do in every situation. In about 45 minutes - Yes, forty-five - Hell Wyrm will be six-feet-under. You'll get to stand up and stretch and get another soda while the legendary Final Fantasy Victory Theme plays!

Reward:
NONE, cuz it ain't no hunt! Just Kidding, You will receive another badge in the Sky Pirates Den, and if you talk to Montblanc in Rabanaster, she will give you 50,000 gil and the Hunt for Yiazmat will become available. Hip-Hip-Hooray, money for another Bubble Belt and another battle thats 500 years long . . .
Thats why we all love Final Fantasy!

~ Yiazamat is longer and, for some obscure reason, Ixion and Pylraster took me longer than this bugger.
~ The Wyrm doesn't absorb all elements. Much like Spherimorph in X, he changes his elemental weakness each time you strike him with an element. For example, he is initially weak to Holy and so once you strike him with the holy element, he'll change to something else and absorb all other elements. This is why it's useless to use elemental magick on him.

~ I didn't have a complete licence board, excluding the Augemtations and the Magick licences and I managed quite easily.
~ The rest of those item requirements are only applicable if you like to use that run with him. I personally just buffed up every one of my characters, using Protectga, Shellga, Hastega, Bravery and Faith, then whacked away with my characters. The equipment requirements that you gave were a bit excessive, in my eyes. You only need something to absorb holy magick and so the White Masks are the only necessary things - everything else is just a personal preference.

Your strategy is fine - it's yours, after all and, at the end of the day, whatever helps you is the best for you. I'm quite the machine when I fight - I just like to go all-out on the offense. Also, kudos for being another player who sat through the bloody monotony of that fight. :wacky:

This is a great guide and thanks to it I'm hopfully gonna bet the hell wurm.

Once I level up a little I'm level 63.
