Fallout 3

Fallout 3 has been announced to very mixed expectations considering that Black Isle Studios went bankrupt and the series is instead being developed by Bethesda Softworks of Elder Scrolls fame. To tell the truth... I've always been curious about this series, but never got my hands on a single copy. I am also a huge fan of Bethesda's Flagship Franchise.

What is your opinion on Fallout 3? What do you speculate about it? Are Fallout fans right to worry? Are Fallout fans just too clingy to let the series develop? Shre your views here.
 
Having played all of the previous PC Fallout games (I own them), I am very much looking forward to the 3rd Fallout. Fallout is my favourite PC game series while Fallout 2 is my absolute favourite PC game. Tactics is the black sheep of the series as it just didn't feel as good as the previous games. I've not played the console game but seeing as it plays like the Baldur's Gate (console), it could be fun but it just isn't a proper Fallout game to me.
 
Fallout is a series I've never played but keep looking at. Everytime anyone brings it up, it's nothing but positive reviews. I look at the games and I see nothing but crap. For me it's like Phantasy Star, a crappy game that is extremely overrated. Maybe there's charm in the game somewhere that I'm missing since I haven't played it myself... or maybe it's just shit and somehow people love it to death.
 
It all comes down to preference. I bought it (Fallout 1) because I wanted a RPG for my PC and liked the idea of it being set in an world like Mad Max. It was violent and was very mature in it's morals at the time and allowed you to play as you liked to a certain extend. However, Fallout 2 surpassed it by not having a time limit (so you could play as long as you liked) and one of my favourite parts was the ability to kill the children who stole from you...little bastards. Ah, how I like the smell of burning flesh in the morning. :D You got to take drugs, sleep with people, join a gang and work up the ladder to be the boss (after killing the previous boss of course). There was just so much you could do in Fallout 2 that it was amazing. Hell, I never even got halfway through the game so I don't know everything that could be done but by God is was great fun.
 
Hmmm... it's been a while since those games were first released. I'm sure there's a free version somewhere online. We'll just pretend it's legal. If anyone has a link, feel free to put it in here.
 
Anyways... Though AztecTriogal's gone. I do have to say that there is a charm to Fallout that more mainstream gamers are missing...

The concept of an RPG set in a world of post-modern decay is sort of mind-bending. Also, the theme that carries it is the idea of Survival of the human will, despite any circumstances. Also, it's not a game of 'Do whatever you want, whenever you want', it's more like, 'do what you want, if your character can' Which was what made it a great RPG! Your progress depended on how your character was set up and how you tried to make up for it. For example, a dumb character can't speak well, but with enough charisma, even an idiot character could somehow find a way to convince people to see things your way. Also, you character's choices ACTUALLY MAKE A DIFFERENCE. For example, in Fallout 1, you go to Necropolis to find that the townsfolk, which are ghouls, are kept alive by a water purification chip. You need this water purification chip so the people in your vault can live. You can:

1.Fix the water pipes in the town so they have water without the purification chip and take the chip as a reward, keeping Necropolis alive and allowing it to thrive later.
2.Take the chip and leave necropolis without water so everyone dies and the town becomes a ruin.
3. Move on to try and find another chip, thus damning everyone in your vault to die because it was the only chip in the game.
 
I'm very much looking forward to this one. The 2 first games in the series are some of the best roleplaying games made for the PC alongside Planescape, Neverwinter Nights, and Knights Of The Old Republic. I'm not really nerveous about Bethesda taking over. They do have some experience and reputation as an RPG developer and I am sure that they will not let the Fallout franchise down!
 
I watched the trailer for the 360 last night, it was only a teaser, but I cant wait to play iy. I havent played the others sadly.
 
i read an article about it over the summer, and it looked amazing... i can't wait to get it... the only problem that remains now is the fact that i have a wii...
