Okay, even for me, this guy was a little tough. But I found a way to beat him. First, make sure to have mirror armor equipped to all your characters, as well as Bubble belt, but before that cast Bravery and Faith on all of your characters. Have all of them wield either Bow or Gun ranged weapons. Second, Fafnir is susceptible to both sap AND slow. The best way to inflict these on him is to cast Scourge (black magic) on yourself and Slowga on your party. (It counts as being used three times. Slowga is an AoE spell, so using it on yourself with your characters in range will reflect back on him.) I know this sounds crazy, but now cast Faith and Haste on Fafnir. You'll see why in a minute :). Over to the south east of the area is a giant rock.

Stand near the rock and he wont be able to Rake you. Rake takes off about 1.5k-2k with Maximillion on, even with Protect. The Gambits recommended are: Ally: Any = Arise, Ally: HP<50% = Curaja, Ally: Any = Esuna, Foe: Lightning - Weak = Thundaga, Foe: Party Leader's Target = Attack. He'll constantly use Shock, Sleepga and will TRY to use White Breath if your party members get too close. The spells he cast wont do anything because of your Mirror armor bought from the merchant at Mt Bur-Omisace. If Faith and Haste wear off Fafnir, re-cast them. The reason why is because he is real weak to magick, especially thunder. Thundaga with faith buff takes off 9999 HP per hit sometimes, depending on your level. When he casts Shock with faith buff, it's a garuntee 9999HP per hit! Good luck!

Here's what I did. I rode the Chocobo and I dismounted right behind the rock. I casted Dispel on Fafnir, taunting him to come near the rock. I equipped Ruby Rings & Mystic Armor.
My gambits were:
Foe:Any -> Haste
Foe:Any -> Faith
Ally:Any -> Thundaga
If done correctly, Thundaga will hit Fafnir THREE TIMES, doing about 9000dmg EACH HIT.
And his Shock & Silencega will bounce off my party to him.
Then I went and ate something, and when I came back he was dead.

I have heard this hunt mark is hard. I'm level 94. Do you think I can eat him with out the reflect strategy? I already have beaten him this way and I find it too easy. But instead of thundaga, I used Scathe, Flare, and Holy. It worked decently. (at least 54,000 damage every 10-15 seconds or so...)

I was way lower than you and I beat him without that strategy, it was hairy though, and I needed to be constantly bubbled and buffed becasue I kept getting battered, but you should have NO trouble at that level

Yeah... I know. It happened in Miriam Stillhrine. I found Negalmuar and did the levelig trick wih 99 Remedies. I left it like that and forgot about it. When I went to play it the following morning, I was in the 50's and had no more Remedies.:) My characters were dead, so I switched them out with my normal leveled people. I killed the Negalmuar and went to the Save Crystal in the previous room. Then I annialated Mateus! And that's why I'm ridicuously over-leveled.
:P
