Explanation about possession between Ultimecia and Edea

It seems to me, that many people don't like Ultimecia and underestimate her, because they didn't paid atention to the story of the game. Because of this, i created this thread, to explain some things that many people don't understand.

Ultimecia was in the begin of the story until the end, and she didn’t appear only in the end of the game. People say that Edea was a better villain than her, and that Ultimecia appeared out of nowhere, but they don't understand that, who we saw during the first half of the game was Ultimecia, and Edea was never a villain!

During the first half of the game, we can compare Edea with a clothe that Ultimecia was using. Ultimecia's mind/soul was literally inside Edea's body controlling it, and the body was just a shell. Ultimecia was using Edea's body to fight, move, talk, etc. and the true Edea(her consciousness) was probably just "sleeping" during that time.
This is proved in space, when Squall's mind goes to the past. He saw Edea's body collapsed in the ground, and then he saw Ultimecia's soul/mind(in the form of her true body, but transparent). She looked at him and said something like "You don't belong to this time. Get out!" AND after this, her soul/mind literally entered Rinoa's body, possessing it. This is a prove that Ulti was literally inside of Edea, controlling the body.

Another prove that she was inside of Edea's body, is what she said in her speech, in Galbadia:
"What happened to the evil, ruthless sorceress from your fantasies?
The cold-blooded tyrant that slaughtered countless men and destroyed many nations?"
Edea was a matron in an orphanage. She never destroyed nations. Who was talking was Ultimecia, never Edea.

Ultimecia said the speech in Galbadia, Ultimecia threw a giant ice spear against Squall, Ultimecia made the Gardens fight against each other, Ultimecia made the missiles destroy one of them, etc.
When you say "i liked Edea as a villain", you are saying "i liked Ultimecia" because during that time, they are the same person. Is almost like if Ultimecia shapeshifted her body in Edea's form.

I hope that people understand this, and stop with this BS about Edea being a better villain than Ultimecia, because Edea was never one. And like proved here, Ultimecia didn’t appear out of nowhere. She wasn’t like Necron or Zemus, but was like Sephiroth, Kefka and Kuja. She was always there, present in the game all the time, and always creating trouble for the heros.

So perhaps when people say they prefer Edea as villain over Ultimecia, they might just be saying that they prefer to fight Edea or simply find her a better "bad guy".

Indeed i found the second CD to be the most amuzing of the four and the fights with Edea and Seifer are great!

Did you read my post? How can you say that "she acts like a villain for that time being, she is your enemy for a great part of the game." if she was never a villain?!

Um, if your trying to show that Ultimecia was possesing Edea, then your wasting your time. It shows this in the game on numerous occasions. If people actually played far enough into the game, they'd understand that as soon as they tell you. Big huge, block letters.

Yeah, but for some dumb reason many people in the internet belive that "body possession = mind controll". They think Ultimecia was mind controlling Edea(like Zemus did with Golbez), but this is wrong.

What is wrong about it, is that she don't act like a villain. Because her consciousness is probably "sleeping", incapable of controlling her body. In the first half of the game, it isn't Edea that you see, is Ultimecia. How Edea can act as a villain if she isn't even capable of controlling her body?

Sure she might not control her actions, but the role she portrays until that part of the game is of a villain, therefore she acts like the villain.

But after beating the game, you already know it wasn't her. So, you cannot say she was a better villain, because she wasn't. You can say that she have better appearence than Ulti, but that's all. Personality? Was Ultimecia. The lines/quotes? Was Ultimecia. Evil feats(destroying the Gardens, fighting the heros, etc)? Was Ultimecia. Edea didn't do anything.

Ultimecia was a villain with personality, many feats during the story, and that DIDN'T appear only in the end of the game. Like Kuja, Kefka and etc. she was there during all the story. And this is a fact.

In my opinion, she is a great FF villain, like Sephiroth, or Kefka, or Kuja. But she is underestimated and hated by many, because they simply didn't understand the story, and thought she was like Necron and Zemus, that appeared out of nowhere.

I'm sure I've read a good explanation for Necron's appearance, but I can't remember where.

As for Zemus: Sure, he didn't make an appearance until the end of the game, but he was always the puppet master. Don't underestimate a villan who controls everything from the sidelines. Ultimecia has the better personality, but when it comes to evil schemes, Zemus is right up there with her.

Ultimecia's main weakness is her apparant lack of strong motives. The truth is that we never really know her true motives.

Now, I think the conclusions drawn in that FAQ are quite plausible, and it adds a lot to her character, but at the end of the day it's only speculation, albeit very well-backed speculation.

Actually, doesn't Zemus do exactly what Ultimecia does? Posess people and make them do his dirty work? It's Zeromus who was the contrived plot device (and the first Fiend, iirc, since they reused his whole appearence thing - too angry or hateful to die - in FFX/X-2).

Actually, doesn't Zemus do exactly what Ultimecia does? Posess people and make them do his dirty work?

Zemus controlled Golbez remotely from the moon. This is not the same as possessing someone. Golbez probably believed he was doing everything he was doing for his own ends, and his words and actions were actually his own.

Ultimecia controlled Edea from within Edea's own body - everything that Edea was seen to say during the time she was possessed was actually said by said by Ultimecia, and her actions were made by Ultimecia, rather than being influenced or dictated by her.
