ESPERs/ Summons

Haha Yea, I do have to agree that a lot of the "new" summons do really resemble old ones. I did like that you got to play with Ex-Death and all of that... but as exciting as it was I wish they more resembled the originals.

I noticed in the opening sequence (before you start a new game or load) that some of the espers do resemble the other summons, I was glad they havent gotten rid of them totally, but I havent got any yet so reserve judgement!

I quite like the new ones, I haven't got all of them yet since I just got it last Friday, however, I have seen pics of the new ones and I think they're great. Some do share a resemblance to the origional summons (which is nice) but there are good, origional, designs such as Chuchulaim and Zeromous. I do miss Ifrit and Shiva, but I can soldier it until XIII because the Espers look very nice, I especially like Ultima and Mateus (who both remind me of shiva) and Zalera (the whole women attached thing is just great). Most of all I LOOOOOOVE the musical score when your fighting them; it's just epic and breathtaking.

That's at least partially right. Not all the espers in the game are originals, most of them are references back to previous games. Zalera, Cuchulainn, Belias, Hasmal, Ultima, Addremelech, and Zodiark were all in Tactics. Exodus is a reference to Ex-Death, the main baddie of Final Fantasy V. Chaos is a reference to the main baddie of Final Fantasy I. Zeromus was from Final Fantasy IV. Framfrit and Mateus are from Tactics Advanced. Shemhazai is the only original, unless he appeared somewhere I don't recall.

Ahh, k. See I never owned or played the FF's from 1-6 cause I didn't own a nintendo console till Cube. I've recently obtained IV and I will hunt the others down too.

I don't even see what you're saying...or trying to. This game isn't like old games, so it's not really comparable in terms of the summoning system. FFIX's was FFIX's. FFXII's is FFXII's. FFIX's fit in with the story of that game. FFXII's fit in with the story of this game.

Even though all the final fantasy games are in different worlds with different people, they all still follow some basic fundamental rules, like the crystals always being a major part of the story, and the summonings all have followed the same rules and principles, nine and ten explains what the summonings are the best and most clear. But eight and six also get into it a little but to.

If the story was set in Ivalice just like FFTA then you should use the same summons/espers as that game

Sooooo ? Is anyone gonna hit me up with a spoiler and tell me when I get the first one, Im about to go Fight the Judge Ghis dude! If I can stop getting killed, and feel I have been playing for long enough without these Espers to help :P

**Im just a summon-aholic**

nay...

ff 12 espers resemble more like the espers of ff tactics and the advance, not like shiva or ifrit... what are ye talking about.. >_>

Well, if you had played ten nine, or even eight then you would know what Im talking about. But basically it wouldnt have made sence to include ifrit and shiva in twelve becuase they werent the same kind of thing. Twelves summoning is more "litteral", think of iut this way. Twelves summonings are somewhere in a room somewhere, when you "summon" them, you are teleporting them from that room to where you are for a limited time, you are litterally "summoning" them. In all the previous final fantasies, you were creating them from peoples thought and memories, so they had no defualt physical form, they were just peoples thoughts and memories being "summoned" into a physical form. Thats probably the best way I can explain it, hope that helps.

The summons were a much needed change to the FF formula. I was tire of the same old summons coming up in every game such as Shiva or Behemut. This is the exact game I been waiting for, for the longest time. Change is good!

Change is good, and the Espers are very nice indeed; I think they're beautifl designs. However, I do think there are things that make a certain thing what it is. A sort of iconography that you instantly identify something with. For FF Shiva, Bahamut and Ifrit are some of these indentifiers; you don't think Final Fantasy without thinking these summons (sort of like Pokemon and Pikachu). However, it is nice to give the origionals a bit of a break so people can miss them. Then bring the back, with a colossal NEXT-GENERATION BANG, in FFXIII!

I do like these espers way more than the summons. They look way cooler than them anyway. :D

i dnt mind the new summons but the old ones were good.in ff12 they are slightly harder to find but are still very cool.:D

I really liked that you had to go out and search for them. A lot of them were realy complex side-quests that lead you back into dungeons you thought you'd never revisit. It was very cool. You're right that they were hard to get to... but that's one of things I really enjoyed. Thanks for reminding me about that. lol :D

Speaking of place you never want to visit again, freekin Ultima in the damn crystal, you had NO MAP.

lol Yea, but I just went there again last night with no map. A lot of the gates lead to the same place, just in a different fashion. And with Ultima, the only way you have to go is up. So as long as you're always opening gates that lead you upwards, it's not really all that hard. The only tricky thing is remembering which gate goes with which unlocking thing. Now Omega is harder... since he's not at the top... he's like way right or something. I might have to look it up... or just wander aimlessly and explore until I find him. :D
