Dont Like It.....

Don't double post please, use the edit button in future.

And the music wasn't poor, rubbish, weak etc. You just..."didn't like it". Everyone's used to Nobuo, so I wonder if some people didn't like it simply because it wasn't his stuff, and that another persons style didnt appeal to them.

Vaan didn't have as good of a backstory as I like in my Final Fantasy games, but the main reason I used him was due to the fact that I nearly always use the main character a lot in any game I play. Some examples would be Tidus in Final Fantasy X, Cecil from Final Fantasy IV, and so on. Now, usually, I'd not like the fact that Vaan lacked some backstory, and I don't. But the fact that he completed the party, and was centred as the main character in the beginning sort of forced you to use him, not for later battles, but at least until you got over 3 people in your party, excluding guests.
Now, since Vaan was forced into your party, and that I used him, it gave me the thoughts of why Penelo was there, as mentioned in previous posts. I didn't like the fact that she didn't have much of a backstory, but at the start especially, she was a good asset to my party. I know a lot of people actually use her in their main party, and I'm sure a lot don't, but thats beside the point. A Quote someone made earlier in this thread is what I'm focusing on currently, because it makes sense. Why did Penelo follow Vaan all around Ivalice?

The only conclusion I can come to that justifies said comment, would be that Vaan is like a brother to her. Not a real brother, but a brother all the same. Due to them having no parents, it made them siblings, in my mind. I figure they must be extremely close for them to care about each other that much to go through all those deadly creatures.

The other party members are interesting as well, I like how Basch had the whole framed story going with him.
Balthier of course had some interesting insight on his family tree but I won't go into that.

I would've liked a little more information about the Viera village, Eruyt. Why Fran left it, and so forth. I think it would've made this game a little more enjoyable if there was some more things to do in Eruyt. Now, with Princess Ashelia, I found it slightly repetitive, the whole princess needing to save things, and what have you. Thats used in many games, but not always like Final Fantasy XII.

I always enjoy playing through the Final Fantasy Games, especially ones like X. Final Fantasy XII, to me, is fun to play through again, except the whole Barheim Passage part, I hated that.

Anyways, If you've read through all of this, I have no idea what I'm saying right now, so even if it seems logic, its probably due to the fact that I'm tired.

Thank you, Justin.

Dang review

Okay well here's what I think about Final Fantasy XII. To start off its very long and finding what your looking for is next to impossible if your not using a guide. Now I'll let you know I'm close to 100% game but I really don't like any of it. Its not even that imaginative.

I started the game about a year and a half ago. When I seen my friend playing it I couldn't help but laugh at the characters. When I played I didn't know about Gambits or the LB. So I thought it was a pretty tough game. Then when I figured stuff out and it was a little fun . Then with good gamibits I found myself playing one handed just walking around.

When I gave up on liking it I focused on just beating the game. So I got a guide (brandy games) and looked up things I would want to know. Thats when I found out about the Zodiac Spear. AHH reset, new game, more hatred for everything.

Now I hurried up and got near the end of the game. Once I had Reddas I did all that could be done. Hunts, weapon finding, so on and so on. Then I was like okay I could get everything in this game, sure I'll do that. When I got into the fight with Yizamat I threw my controller down and stopped playing for a while.

My friend came over and wanted to play the game and I told him "sure I'll let you try and fight this boss." So I put in the game and handed him the controller. He liked it. He set gambits up and we watched him die within hours. So we had fun killing Yizamat and then Omega. It was better with two people playing since I didn't like the difficulty the game can have late in.

Now I'm down to finding a few weapons. Most of which I have to make on my own. I am getting that old "you know if this game is this hard when it takes hours of searching to find a damn weapon. I'm not gonna play it." Sad thing is I wouldn't even use the weapon I'm trying for hours to get. Even hours with a guide that will tell me how to get it. F that.

On a note for some good things I like.

You MP goes up with whatever you do, besides cast spells.
If your first party dies you can switch in new.
Its one of those games that you can play for years here and there. No rush.

There're a few posts that are starting to stray from the original topic, in this thread. I realise that discussions about the topic led to it but try to stick to the original question and leave other discussions elsewhere (e.g. "that's your opinion, you're not changing mine" etc). Thanks. :)

( Replying to Atma's post ) Character development may not important in saving the world, but it is highly important when it comes to story telling..
Though, the player must understand sometimes why the character wants to save this world, most players felt that Vaan was strolling along with Penelo just for the thrill of it all. Sometimes the character must show heart, he must have a reason why he has the desire to save the world. Why does he want to face, the world's evil ? is it because of his past, because it's effecting his lifestyle, his family , his home ?

So would say that Character development many not be important, but it makes more sense and understanding when it is there, more clearity.
Life is rather a behemoth than small and vague. We have to go through many stages of life ( child, teenager, young adult etc ) and gain so many different rivials, friends, and have a on-going character growth change, and a developing growth towards your inner family.

If Life was as Vague as Vaan's was, we would have no more than a lifespan of a small fly, humans would be dead in weeks, not years.

The Music in FF12 was more dimm, and calm than the other Final Fantasy games, felt like not much of the music ''stuck out''.Final Fantasy music is usually more upbeat and says '' Here I am ''' ! rather than FF12 's music which says '' You can find me, if you want to ''...

Yes SquareEnix wanted to try something different, and the non- random based battle system was really refreshing for a change.
But taking away something that makes a Final Fantasy worthwhile ( character development ) was rather dry, for a change..

But yeah, not going to debate anymore, don't want to create any rage between a second person in this forum, or make the thread too ''heated ''..

I thought when I first got the game that it would be fun and interesting like the others but when I started playing the first few battles and cutscenes really made me bored.I didnt like the battle system because in boss battles it takes them 10 seconds or more to attack and it really annoys me when the boss is attacking you.

Why was Gau there? Why was Vincent there? Why was Amarent there? why was Auron there REALLY?

Doesn't mean anything. But what would the game be like without them????
Vincent Amarant and Auron are my 3 favorite FF characters:jon:
Vincent is a ninja with a gun...Amarant can kill Ozma alone...and auron has the coolest overdrives...

i agree that XII had the suckier story but the gameplay was pretty good...i like basch too ^^

I have given up on changing the entire world. Instead I'll focus making my little portion of it brighter for me and those I love. It's just once in a whie I need that "it can happen" optimism that Final Fantsy and other games offer (maybe I'll get lucky and something I do will actually make a difference, eh?).

Well, i can see there's a really nice conversation here, reading this page.
I won't post anything else than just I actually liked FFXII, but more for it's gameplay rather than it's story (something that didn't happen on the other FF's) but i just dropped to this little quote there and i found that this actually resembles myself too ;)

Nice to see that a games messages/ideas affect you so greatly positevely as they have did to me and to many others i'm sure!
;)

I was not debating, good sir. My intentions were to find out why people dislike FF12. I succeeded in understanding people dislike the game for all the same reasons- character development. Interesting enough, the cliches of reasoning don't really apply.

I do agree that c.d. should be for the player's comprehension; however, that is a luxury. I do understand what you're trying to portray.
