Do you believe in the Devil?

As i told in another thread as i believe in the good i believe also in the bad.My believes are, after looking many books about it,that we all have a pice of god in us and we also carry some bad in us.One more the other less.Without any bad there couldent be any good and the same without any good there couldent be any bad.The one needs the other to survive.

I believe in the Devil or whatever name it choses to go by exist. Though personally, I see the Devil as being weak, impotent and not to mention delicious.

If I were to imagine how the Devil would look like. At first, he would appear like a divine being in a business suit or as they say, an angel of light. As for his true form, I would imagine him as having a nasty black humanoid figure wearing a red cape equipped with a black spear ready to go to war at any time, any place.

yo guyz had 2 postr on this cuz i ent in any way a believer in god or the devil...both are just fictional characters made up by a load of old philosiphers smokin weed an pissed up 2 make people bak in the olden days do what they r told. god is gud personified the devil is evil personified... the only reason for any religion to come about is due to lack of facts as people long ago had no scientific values or knowlege to explain othewrwise so all this crap about supernatural beings was made up...sorry for crashin ur weddin an all but each 2 his or indeed her own opinion an i 4 1 believe religion 2 be aload of old bullshit...plden day proppaganda if u wish...sory but nuff sed

I do not know who or what the devil is, but I'm quite sure that my mother is his blood-relative. :P

In this forum, I was under the impression that we wrote and debated in English. Try it, it's not that hard once you get the hang of it.

Skirnir, I'll look into your mother's bloodline when I have a chance.

Oh, my point though - what of people who worship the devil then?

if i believed in the devil i'd have to believe in god first.

i however think that both of them were created to serve a purpose - God to explain how things were created, and the Devil so that people would follow the leadings of the church.

@Aeris, Isn't there a limit for the size of your signature?

Anyway, I believe in God so I also believe in the Devil, not the Devil that they show you on TV, who is in a bussiness suit and wants to offers you a supernatural deal for your soul (The Collector anyone?), lol.

As far as I know the Devil, Satan, Lucifer or whatever you want to call him used to be an angel or something, one of the most handsome and intelligent ones, in fact he was secure about of his own qualities that he even believe to be as good if not better than God himself, and he got fired from heaven or soemthing

of course theres a limit - i havnt gone over the ten lines allocated either :P

And i dont belive that Lucifer was an angel in heaven, because first of all the only proof in this is in the bible, and if God was all forgiving and stuff wouldnt he have allowed Lucifer back into heaven by now? besides the bible has been proven to be wrong on several accounts - Adam And Eve, God creating the universe for examples.

and i dont belive in Lucifer for the same reason i dont believe in God - theres simply not enough proof out there to explain either ones existance or purpose

That's not entirely accurate.

Actually, it's not biblically accurate at all.

The only mention of Satan's fall is in the The Book of Revelations, which prophesizes the future.

Here's some s**t fo yo a**es ^_^ Apparently the Devil visits the Earth every few years or so (maybe longer :P) and when he does, he takes the form of a black cat, now it's common knowledge that cats and dogs don't get along but isn't it wierd that DOG backwards spells GOD, just a coincidence?

I think you may be reading a little too much into things. These words are man-made and can't really be used to suggest anything, to be honest. There's also the fact that you just pulled the word 'dog' out of nowhere.

I believe in God, therefore I believe there is a Devil, Satan, Lucifer, etc. I dont worship the Devil, but I find religion interesting.

Well the devil is like a collective name for all evil right, sop the devil is not a physical being just a concept that tidies evil nicely under the rug. Besides without evil there wouldn't be good so he's really quite necessary

No, I don't believe in the devil. Although I'm agnostic, I can confidently say I don't believe in the devil. If there is a God, and he loves us and is everything everyone makes him out to be, then I don't think he would have a punishment such as Hell, or create something evil such as the devil.

No, I did actually hear about the Devil taking the form of a black cat when he visits the Earth, I never made it up. But the bit about the dog being god spelt backwards is just something I noticed one day ^_^

i agree with what lunatic higher is saying - if God really is all forgiving and all loving there would be no need to be a devil or a hell.

i stand firm in my belief that the devil was invented in the middle ages as a method of scaring the peasents into following the churches laws and rules, because in the middle ages fear of the supernatural was normal, the church simply harnessed this fear for thier own purposes.

Actually that's not true either.

EZEKIEL 28:12
"Son of man, take up a lament concerning the king of Tyre and say to him: 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: "'You were the model of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.

13 You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone adorned you: ruby, topaz and emerald, chrysolite, onyx and jasper, sapphire, turquoise and beryl. Your settings and mountings were made of gold; on the day you were created they were prepared.

14 You were anointed as a guardian cherub, for so I ordained you. You were on the holy mount of God; you walked among the fiery stones.

15 You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created till wickedness was found in you.

16 Through your widespread trade you were filled with violence, and you sinned. So I drove you in disgrace from the mount of God, and I expelled you, O guardian cherub, from among the fiery stones.

17 Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor. So I threw you to the earth; I made a spectacle of you before kings.

18 By your many sins and dishonest trade you have desecrated your sanctuaries

The book of Isaiah:

14:11) Brought down to the nether-world were your pride and the tumult of your stringed instruments; maggots are spread out under you, and worms are your covers.

14:12) How have you fallen from the heavens, O glowing morning star; been cut down to the ground O conqueror of nations?

---------------------------------------------------------------

Only mentioned in Revelations? Come on, even you are not as superficial to believe that a huge war between God and Satan is only mentioned in terms of the future occurances. Why would something be so widely accepted if the past was not displayed somewhere in the Bible as well. More sources? Sure thing!

He's given numerous names which refer to his beauty, secular influence, and his darkness:

*"the prince of this world" - John 12:31, 14:30
*"the god of this world" - 2 Corinthians 4:4
*"the prince of the power of the air" and "the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience" - Ephesians 2:2
"the ruler of the demons" - Matthew 12:24

*1st TIMOTHY 3:6: Not a novice, lest being puffed up with pride he fall into the same condemnation as the devil.

--------------------------------------------------------------

As Lucifer, he was the most beautiful angel in all of Heaven. He was a more supreme angel than any other in Heaven but pride, and envious and greedy ambition took over him as he wished to exceed even the powers of God and have himself Ruler of all; superior to even God. God saw this is Lucifer and threw him to the Underworld and put him in free reign of everything under the heavens.

In the Garden of Eden in Genesis he comes disguised as a serpent to deceive, not force, Adam and Eve into eating a forbidden fruit. Was the fruit really that bad? No. It was just to see if Adam and Eve would obey the one and only rule that God set out for them. They didn't eat an apple that was bad for them; they disobeyed God's command.

In the book of Job it talks about Satan challenging God to see if someone would really still wirship him if he was put through "Hell on Earth", so-to-say. Satan had control to plague Job's body, kill of his family and friends, and make him lose almost everything he had ever owned or loved. Satan brought all of this upon Job, but still Job praised God for the blessings he had in life. job cursed himself before he would ever curse God. Test carried out; Satan was proved wrong.

I believe the devil exists, and I believe that God is bigger, better, and more powerful. He wins in the end, handsdown. Sure it can be considered a spoiler, but this is one ending, I'm definitely wanting to know about before it ends.;)

There is no God or Devil. No Heaven or Hell. These are images and places created by Humans looking for a reason behind 'why we are here'. So, no, I don't beleive in the Devil. I believe in the 'idea' of the Devil however. Let me explain.......'Evil' and 'Good' are in all of us. We have the capacity to do bad things and the capacity to do nice things. Evil is just a word to explain the bad things people do....'Oh Hitler was Evil' for example or 'Mother Teresa was Good', do you see what I am saying? Probably not, many don't. Humankind has this thing called intelligence...this leads to another thing called free-will and THAT's where the trouble starts. We CHOOSE what we want to do. Some choose poorly. Others decide to place the responsibility for these choices on a God or a Devil...thereby taking the blame off themselves and onto something else. That, in my opinion, is a cop out. I am responsible for my own actions....anyway i could go on, but I doubt anyone is still reading. This is all just my opinion remember, please don't flame me. If you personally find a belief in God and/or the Devil comforting that's good for you.
