Well, it has been shown that in history, such "higher" beings as kings and queens are not always just, loving or caring. There have been kings and queens in history who have abused their powers, led their people to misery, made the wrong decisions, or were overthrown, one way or another, because they weren't doing their job. For what reason, if there is a higher being over the universe such as God, should we believe in the benevolence of God? If kings and queens or other known higher beings can screw up, then so can God. As hatred, famine, drought, disasters, poverty and the general chaos of the world existed, and that such a higher being existed not to clean up any of these, there is no reason to believe in the benevolence of a higher being.

As I said before, God isn't always fair; He created life and death for a purpose, as did he allow evil and wrong-doing to exist within the world...

So when you ask that question, then ask, why does he have to intervene because people choose to believe he is good? :)

Chris

That wasn't exactly directed at you though because there are religious people who do believe that God is just and all loving, and that nothing he does can be considered wrong. However, if he were truly omnipotent and omniscient, and evil is absolute in definition we don't have any free will, and it doesn't matter if he gives us the choice or not; we're still mindless drones. He might as well be omnipotent and do good things for us. He's done it before in the bible, supposedly, so why won't he do it now? If he really weren't omnipotent or omniscient, then perhaps why good things don't always happen can be explainable; if he doesn't have the capability to do anything or everything, he's not as great or as praisable as some people make him out to be. Or perhaps, if he doesn't intervene just because people think he's good, maybe it's because he doesn't exist.

If God is omnipotent and omniscient, then free will does not exist. If God is omniscient, then he knows the future. If he did not know the future, then there is something he doesn't know, and he is not omniscient. If he knows the future, then free will is redundant because I can't use it to change the outcome. Think of Oedipus Rex as an example.

Yes I do believe strongly!!

God has given us free will to do whatever we want and choose whatever we want...you ask why? simply because there is a judgement day where all of us gonna be asked about what we done with our lives and what choices did we made..It's simply as that..If we didn't have a free will then none of us gonna go to hell and all of us gonna be in heaven, and there won't be anything is called as life because it's all their for us..we just live and everything is made for us...That's not an option..We were made to believe in God and do good things in order to go to heaven...At least that's what I believe!!

When that time comes, I hope to have achieved Nirvana, and not Heaven.

No actually, if we have free will, we shouldn't be descriminated for making that choice and going to hell. If free will truly existed, I wouldn't go to hell just for not believing that God exists. And if there really is a judgment day, then shouldn't you not be judged for what you choose, if free will really existed?

Angelus, your attitude and arguments are precisely what I use to question. However, the difference is, I say at the end "(Why/Why not)? Because he does not exist". Such is the view of an Athiest :)

In life there is right and wrong and we can choose between both, but that's only in life...After we die we don't have the choice at all, we just had our chance to live our lifes the good way or the bad way and after we die, when the judgement day arrive, will be judged by what we have done in our lives and by that God is gonna choose whether we deserve to be in heaven or hell..Each road isn't really easy!! I mean we have judges now, why do you think we have them?? Isn't it to prevent choas in our lives and to live peacfuly knowing that you're gonna get back what you own or the killer is gonna be punished...It's the same like that...God knows everything we are doing, thinking and feeling..You may feel that he abandoned you, but what you really don't know is that everything in life is a test for us, so God knows how patient and believing we are...

An example, what do you think about people who kills?? They too wanna go to heaven, but they never regret killing and they continue on killing..Do you think that those kind of people deserve to be in heaven?? If we have the free will even after death and we choose where to go, I think all the people would choose heaven and no one will be in hell even those killers and rapers and criminals, the worst people is gonna be with the good people...in the same place while they don't deserve it at all...I can't even imagine how a mom will feel if she and her daughter (the victim) will see the killer who killed her daughter and take away her life in with them in Heaven!! That's just don't work...None of us know what is heaven and what is hell...simply, heaven is a peacful eternity while hell is pain eternity for those who commited sins and never regret doing it and kept on and on with it...If you really think hard about it, you'll see that God has made the right choices...you say that you don't believe in god, then will you tell me what are you living for?? Are you just living your life for yourself or for your beloved ones or for whom, really?? Those questions always important because what if everyone who you are living for are dead?? what will you do then?? Most of people will say that they don't wanna live alone and then just commit and suicide which is a sin and you'll never be forgived for doing it...

I mainly don't understand how can people live without believing in God or at least that he exist!! I mean, I won't live peacfuly if I don't believe in God because whenever something bad happens and whenever someone dear to me die, I just feel that ok knowing that there is a God who's gonna protect me from everything bad and that I'm not alone at all since he's with me...Be with God and believe in him, so he will be with you too...

What's the point of testing us if he already knows what will happen to us? What's the need for anything if he already knows everything about us? That defeats the purpose of any kind of free will, as I have explained before. We all have the choice to choose what we want to do. In real life, laws may exist to prevent chaos, but we still have the free will to go against them. Revolutions occur and people get thrown in jail for doing such things. Or change occurs and laws change. Free will is not without its consequences. But there is no consequence to change Judgment Day. It's just an end all, where you're going to get it. Knowing these consequences, nobody would want to exert their free will to do something that would cause them to suffer. Going to hell, most likely. But this is true only if people believe that Judgment Day exists. Some people don't.

An example, what do you think about people who kills?? They too wanna go to heaven, but they never regret killing and they continue on killing..Do you think that those kind of people deserve to be in heaven?? How do you know that all people who kill want to go to heaven? Perhaps Hitler did, but his twisted view allowed him to think that he would. And Satanists who want to go to hell exist. As do people who have no religion, who don't care about heaven or hell. I could say the same for those Christians who believed they were going to heaven for torturing heretics and thinking they were doing the right thing for God. If free will existed, there would be no need for heaven or hell. We would not be judged by our actions as such, if God really believed in letting us have free will. Free will is without consequences. As long as you do not harm people when you use free will, it is acceptable. I'm not harming someone when I choose not to believe in God. Why should I go to hell for it?
Why do I have to devote my life to people? It's a narrow minded stance to take. I devote my life to intelligence, an abstract concept. It will exist as long as my mind exists to perceive it. Even so, people can choose to devote their lives to dead people. It's their choice. You may not like it. Einstein is dead, and so is Ingersoll. So is Newton, Voltaire, and any number of other inspirational or otherwise famous people. Yet, people are inspired by them for what they have done, and who they were. The fact that they are dead means nothing.

Morals do not necessarily come from God. I can live fine without him. My sense of direction comes from common sense, the ability to understand the consequences of what may happen and dealing with it. This ability does not require God. Common sense comes from the mind, not God. It's interesting that you say that you can't live peacefully without God, but it's actually quite the opposite. People in the past have lived with God in their minds, but all it has managed to do is cause religions intolerance, hatred, bloody wars and discrimination. I accept the fact that I will not always be protected. That I will not always be pampered by any kind of force. There comes a time in life when you realize that the only person who can stand up for yourself and protect yourself is you. Because you are the only one who understands yourself. Don't ask for someone that you cannot see to help you. Don't ask for someone you can't see to motivate you. Dead or alive, people who have done amazing things, that have existed before, and done wonderful things motivate me. A God, whom I cannot interact with and is spoken of with death on his lips as in the bible is not someone who motivates me. His omnipotence and omniscience does not amaze me.

hey i belive in god he gave me food he gave me everithing i `had my mom my dad everithig and RIKU you offend me a lot wITH your mesage you are a ingnorant if you don't quit everithing you put in that mesage god wiil punish you, you are just a kid ou dont understend the meaning of life it's true lost a family member hurt's but he have the reason to do it don't ask me the reasons,

If this were under the Temple of Ancients, I could warn you for proselytizing...

Please do not accuse other members of not understanding the meaning of life, because there either isn't a definite one, or none of us really know what it is.

And why shouldn't I ask you for reasons? I wouldn't be convinced that what you have to tell me about God is something I should believe in.

We are all entitled to believe in whatever we wish, or in some cases, to not believe, if evidence is not permitting. So don't go around telling other people what they should and shouldn't believe in.

You too are just a kid, so you're hardly one to speak.

I for one don't believe in any religion fully, I think some of the ideals in some religions could be true. But some of rules in religions are wrong and those cause conflict between others.
