Divorce - How destructive is it?

Divorce can tear a family in two. My godmother and father (my aunt and uncle) have recently divorced and its upset everyone else more then it has their children. Now that I simply dont understand, their children really dont give a crap if their parents are divorced or not. They still use their father for funds and live with their mother, making her life more difficult as she dates her boyfriend.

My parents split up after I was born and they werent married, so I can say I havent had the blow of divorce. Yet my friends have all mainly gone through divorce and come to me as a shoulder to cry on. All I can do is comfort them, I really have no idea what to say to them.
 
I agree that divorce can split familes apart..but my dad and mom got divorced and they are the best of friends now..my dads lives one block away from my house and he comes over all the time for supper and just to say hello sooo it worked out for me i guess lol
 
it all really depends on the circumstances. I've seen what has happened to some of my friends when their parents got devorced, and it is really sad, especially when they are close to both parents, but sometimes I feel it can be more destructive personally for some people their parents stay together, like in my family where the fight every week, and always threaten to leave, but they never do, because they cared about me and my brother too much. let's just say i was a little screwed up in the head for a little while because of it. sometimes it's just not healthy for some people to stay together, or even get together in the first place.
