Please answer the pool, did you like more the original,or the versus version of final fantasyxiii?I see its hard to say because the game doesnt released yet,but we can have an idea of the gamefrom, television, magazines, and videos, answer the question and the pool to,got it?!:)

Regular XIII.

Versus is a Nomura directed game which is a notch against it when it comes to plot and characters as far as I'm concerned. And imo characters are one of the most important parts of an RPG.

it's hard to say. We virtually know nothing about Versus. I mean how many trailers have been released for it? One? I wish we would learn more about this game. it looks awesome. But I think I'm going to like the regular final fantasy more.

as much as i understood....versus will be something like kingdom hearts...and i prefer not to compare games from different genres...
better ask that question when versus gameplay videos come out:P

I say the original. We don't know a lot about both games, but I thank them for having a ton of trailers and promos. xD
In the original, the characters look great, we get a kind of feeling about the story, and there's something I'm looking forward to in that game: in the English trailer, lightning's arguing with that boy about keeping both of them alive, I really want to know what'll happen. :P

In Versus, well, what is there? xDDD I just need more info on that game... besides the characters (who also look great x3)...

I like Final Fantasy XIII better so far but yeah its kinda hard to compare cause we no know almost nothing about Versus XIII. But so far I like XIII better judgeing from what I saw in the trailers and demo. What type of rpg does Versus look like anyway? I wonder what the battle system will be like.

I believe there are already quite a few threads on this, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to throw another post down.

Since neither game has come out in the states yet, it is undetermined.

I am bias though to FFXIII versus because of the dark plot. I figure FFXIII will be another cliche story line. It gets old.

I'm going with this quote here. Whilst I think the character design looks better in Versus alongside the dark plot, I'm going to have to say FFXIII over Versus simply because we know more information and looks a fantastic game anyways, once we have more information on Versus I'll probably go back to liking that more. :monster:

You seem to be assuming Nomura's attempt at a "Dark" plot won't be wrought with cliches as well. If you're expecting anything from the "dark" plot then you're also probably assuming it's attempt at "Dark" won't just be some moody brooding "I'm dark and edgy" bullshit. This is a JRPG. Subtlety and nuance aren't exactly strong points of the genre. I can't fathom why people are expecting much looking at nomura's track record so far.

I'm actually starting to get a bit more excited for XIII as time goes on though. The Villain looks great and I hope she has some depth to her, as a good villain will go a long way for the game imo.

Versus is supposed to be based off of Shakespeare and being a Shakespeare fan I'm very much looking forward to this game. I also prefer the character designs over the ones in FFXIII. To me, FFXIII feels like another FFVII attempt tbh. I mean it looks like it's gonna be a great game, don't get me wrong, but I just get a really strong FFVII vibe from some of the things I've observed. Anyway, I've been more intrigued for Versus just because I prefer darker plots and such. I also like that it's a fantasy based on reality as well. It's intriguing to me and has pulled me in.

Perhaps because there are people who are fans of Nomura's work and don't share your opinion?

Funny that, judging from the trailer I actually think that Versus visually is a dead ringer for FF VII with the suits, Noctis looking a bit like Cloud Strife, and an urban setting reminding me a lot of Midgar.

Personally I'm slightly more optimistic about FF XIII. Kintase was Sakaguchi's right hand man for many years and played a huge part in the creation of some of the best games in the series. If there's anyone left at Square who can get the franchise back on track, it's him. Nomura, as a producer and game director, I am not a big fan of.

Which is fine and dandy, but doesn't change the fact that the projects hes been involved in concerning the story, have had some pretty terribly written plots/characters overall.

It's like people who think Twilight is a great series of books. They're entitled to their opinion, but it doesn't stop the fact that the books are poorly written and don't measure up to books such as Lord of the Rings, Dune, Great Gatsby, ect.

Lolwut? xD There are settings in that game based off of real places in Japan. I don't see how anything in that game is even remotely similar to FFVII. Also I'm sorry but Noctis doesn't look anything like Cloud Strife, nor is he anything like Cloud either. Lightning is the one who looks like Cloud. That's already been stated. The suits? The suits are for Noctis' coronation. How is that similar to FFVII? Cloud never wore a suit.

Lots of central characters (Shinra people) in FF VII wore suits. From what little we've seen so far of Versus, I do think the design tends to drift towards that of FF VII, with character costumes, vehicles, and city scapes looking a bit more "real world".

I think Noctis looks quite a bit like Cloud actually. Funny haircut, big sword, a costume not quite unlike the one Cloud wore in Advent Children. Lolwut all that you want, but there are definitely similarities :P

Flagship title gets my vote on this one. I hardly know anything about Versus, and the trailers don't exactly reveal too much either. Besides, there's something about the atmosphere in Versus I'm just not too fond of. It looks pretty dark, which should attract me, but it doesn't.

As for FFXIII, I don't know, the characters seem more like the type you want to care about, people you want to connect with to some degree. Versus just doesn't give me that same feeling with its characters. I know that not a lot of info is out yet, so I shouldn't judge, but it's just the vibe I'm getting.

That sounds awesome, I'd never heard of that until now. Generally games seem to look better when they're based of real places because there's more of a focus on detail such as Assassins Creed, Uncharted 2 which have both been based on irl places and less focus on trying to be full on creative which sometimes brings the level of detail down. :gonk:

I went for the original version only because I know hardly anything much about Versus. I'm also just a little more interested in the original than Versus right now.

Yeah, tell her. Noctis = Cloud.
Lightning is more Squall IMO.

I choose the original for three reasons:

1) We know much more about it and so far it looks more intersting than Versus
2) Versus looks a bit too realistic to me. Hope they'll change that.
3) The battle system in versus probably gonna be something like in KH.

To me Lightning looks superficially a lot like Ashe in FF XII and even Yuna in FF X-2 (mostly the outfit). Some have drawn parallels between Lightning's face and Cloud's in Advent Children, but I definitely see a Squall Leonhart resemblance as well, and not just the weapon either!

As far as locations in Versus being based on real-life locations in Japan, I'd say that if Midgar wasn't based directly on real life equivalents, it certainly took a lot of influence from them. The slums of Midgar (and North Corel to an extent) look very similar to the shantytown slums in places like Rio De Janeiro or even the Sanya district of Tokyo. Places like Costa Del Sol and even The Gold Saucer also have a level of realism in their designs.

Right, but, that still doesn't change the fact that there are fans of the series, and who, because of their liking to it, may look forward to any of S. Meyers' work. Same thing goes for Nomura. Just because it doesn't hold up to "classic standards", doesn't mean the people who enjoyed his initial projects aren't going to like this one. The response is still valid.

Also, while its undeniable that the Twilight saga is poor from a literary stand point, the views of her series from a conceptual or "story" aspect is much more subjective. And since we're talking about video games, that, amongst other "entertainment" values, is what's really being judged.

Besides, he's been director of what? Like, The Kingdom Hearts series and Advent Children; the latter of which was probably only because of his graphical abilities, since that's all the movie seemed intended for. Too limited a track record to really write him off, I think.
------

The game looks nothing like KH apart from being a fellow ARPG and the style of the designs. It looks extremely contemporary, with fantasy elements implemented. The characters look pretty good. What little revealed about them seems interesting, in my opinion. The more that gets leaked about this game, the more intrigued I'm getting.

It's too early to make some kind of real decision, but I'm leaning towards Versus thus far, based primarily on the kind of thematic direction the game intends to take vs. (lulz @ puns) what I've seen of XIII.
