Did Aeris love Cloud or Zack?

alright im asking this not out of opinion because i want to know the answer... i havent played 7 in like 4 years cause i lost the first disc and havent been able to buy it back. but i see people say that aeris loved zack but i dont remember any of that happening in the game? i remember her acting like she had feeling for cloud before she was killed by sephiroth. but whats the real answer? where can you find out?

Its not as simple as that though(MoTP proves this).

everything she 'knew' about cloud was him acting in his zack persona.

Though she would like to know the 'real' cloud.

In the end she does love Cloud and I just wasted 5mins of my life.

She did NOT love Cloud. She loved Zack, and Cloud reminded her of Zack, so it was just the physical similarities, and the "1st ranking SOLDIER" that reminded her of Zack, thus she had SLIGHT feelings for Cloud.

I would say both. You can love more than one person in your lifetime. She loved Zack, Zack went away. Then she met Cloud and loved him.

Because Zack died, or rather he was away for a long long time, I think Aeris felt the need to find someone of replacement, or similar quality, as Avin has said.
Question is, I think, who did Aeris love more?

Aeris definatly loved Zack. She also did love Cloud in a way, maybe not right off the bat. At first I think it was a memory of Zack that she saw in Cloud that she loved, but just as she was beginning to love Cloud she realised she had to leave him to 'save the planet'. That's why she helped him to start finding himself. Even had she lived she would have never forgotten Zack and she would still have loved him. You never forget your first love.

Aeris just liked Cloud because he had the same image as Zack that´s why she flirts with him since the begining of the story!
Later on she might have something for the real Cloud although Tifa is the only one who actually discovers the real Cloud.

It's interesting because their are two love triangles in the game.

First triange: Cloud, Aeris, & Zack.
Cloud & Zack were best friends & Aeris loves both of them.

Second triangle: Cloud, Aeris, & Tifa.
Tifa & Aeris become really good friends, but they both love Cloud.


No matter what the actual answer is someone would end up getting hurt. It's a shame though.

Anyway, I don't believe that Aeris loved Cloud, because if you actually pay attention to MOTP all of the stuff she gushes about Cloud being (cool?) it conjures up the image of Zack. Coincidence? I think not. You can't love a person if all you love about them is a false image. Aeris didn't get to know about the real Cloud until she watched Tifa sort out Cloud's memories. Period.

Of course. To let go of his guilt & to let go of her as well. Even if he wasn't in love with her, he did care about her in some form; however, given the circumstance of the game I don't really think that Cloud had the time to properly grieve. They were forced to move forward despite what had happened. I think at that point Cloud lets go of a lot of different emotions that had been building up for a long time.

She had a passionate friendship love for Cloud and a passionate boyfriend/relationship love for Zack; no doubt. I mean the game states that Aeris and Zack went out. Just because something happens to Zack

As for Cloud, she's there to help him out in anyway. He's in trouble and he needs her power to save the earth and mankind, and as a good friend does, she comes through in the end.

Oh dear god XD, I love it when I leave and everyone looses their mind and starts up threads that are basically the same threads from like a year ago that I argued in already *laughs*.

Anyways:

It's more of a opinion thing. You actually need to go on E-bay and buy the game then go through it on a neutral standing point or in blunt form don't just pick which girl looks the "hottest" or who's got the bigger "boobs."

I'd like to know do you find the flirting wrong? Besides just because you flirt with someone doesn't mean that it's because your like someone you once loved , also please don't make Aerith sound so....superficial...plastic...or shallow, which I believe we all can agree the girl is playful but not that shallow. I'll agree with you to a degree don't get me wrong, Yes Aerith does in the beginning start with the similarities between Cloud and Zack but in my own opinion she wants to see Cloud for Cloud instead of the Zack in Cloud.

If I recall, weren't you complaining about us Clerith being immature and you just staying out of it cause you were tired of the drama, and the stupidity that is caused? Yet, here you are conversing ill mannerly about our stupidity and bitching at us for being Clerith because I also seem to notice that once you jump on the bag waggon you can't seem to get off your high horse . His response to her death goes deeper than friendship. Barret pats his shoulder yet doesn't do the same comfort to anybody else in the party. Yuffie hugs Cloud but not the other person in the party. Why would Cloud need the extra comfort if they are all suffering from losing a friend? Plus he doesn't say "what about our pain?" he says "what about my pain?"

Alright that's about it, I'll wait for the flaming to begin upon me so I can debate back *smiles* .

Well Aeris was Zacks girlfriend for a while, I dont remember how long, but she mentioned it to Cloud at the beginning of the game. I think she falls in love with Cloud before they get split up. She shows feelings for him, (At the gold saucer when they go on the date, unless you got Tifa or Barret for that lol), but she also shows feelings for Zack as well somewhat. I believe she got over Zack though, and loved Cloud. I also believe Cloud loved her back, but it doesnt matter.

I dont see how you guys dont see she loved him. She shows it several times in the game, she always wants to be with him, she wants to "meet" him, although, that could of been because Cloud was a very sheltered person at the time, so it could have been between friends. She makes him a deal to go on a date with him in the beginning. Although that also could have been just a small crush she had on him. It quite obviously grew throughout the game like what happened with Tidus and Yuna or Squall and Rinoa in FFs X and VIII. Yes I know I shouldnt compare these games but Im just putting an example there. Cloud is obviously in emotional pain when Aeris is killed, so that proves he loved her, it wasnt just friendship. It always made me sad the way Cloud promised that he would take Aeris for a ride in the airship, and never got to. It was kind of ironic that you get it just after she dies... Anyways, I do think she loved him and he loved her back.

I'm gonna agree with you but give a quote from Beeria. I have to say I agree with Beeria and you, Orichalcon, you both make a valid point

The date scene, Aerith's line "I want to meet you" in Japanese culture means "Will you be my sweetheart?" i.e she wants him to be her boyfriend. "Searching for you" refers to the whole "I know you're not Zack" thing but the "I want to meet you" refers to her asking him to be her boyfriend. Cloud was just too dumb to realise.

The only problem I have with this quote is the last part of the sentence...

"Cloud was just too dumb to realise."

I'm not so sure about that
