This is an anime based primarily off of H.P. Lovecraft's Kthulu Mythos. It follows Kurou Daijuuji, a poor detective who is a dropout from the (almost) unknown college of magic. While on a job for the most prestigous family in the town, he runs into the grimoire, Al Azif, or, more commonly known, the Necrinomicon. Since it is one of the most powerful grimoires, it has a personality of its own, and has taken the form of a human girl.
They form a bond to defeat a group of thugs from an underground syndicate planning to take over the world, who wanted Al Azif's power. From there, it chronicles their adventures and they get a Deus, called Demonbane, the anime's namesake.
