Demonsbane

I'm at Raithwall's Tomb at the moment, defeated both Demon Walls and gone into the secret area.

Now I been looking it up on different walkthroughs etc. that the chest in this secret area is meant to either contain gil, knot of rust or a Demonsbane sword. All the sites I've looked at say the same.

This is where I get confused, everytime I open the chest, all I get is a Holy Mote, no knot of rust, no gil and no sword.

So is there more than one chest down there? Or are Holy Motes a normal treasure from the chest? I've not seen any site mention a Holy Mote....

I don't know, as far as I can tell there's only one chest down there in the secret area.

But the chest sometimes doesn't spawn, so I suppose there could be two, and the demonsbane one just isn't spawning.....

Need confirmation really, I want a perfect game, so need the Demonsbane chest!

I don't know about you, but what I to do to get the demonsbane to get the chest, is i ran around the secret area twice - killing all the fiends in the meantime, the second time just for the respawning of some that show up, and then the demonsbane came from the chest. I had tried about 4 or 5 times to get the chest, before I had decided to kill all the fiends before getting it, and just got gil. Maybe it was shear coincidence that I got the demonsbane when I decided to kill the fiends before getting it, or what. Not sure, but that's what I did.

All I know is that there is a 50% chance that the chest will contain the demonsbane. It's just going to take patience and a little bit of luck to finally get it. As for why you got the holy mote, I guess it's just a random item the chest can contain. I'm positive that there's only one chest down there, so I know you didn't pick the wrong one or anything.. In fact, I think I got a holy mote on one of my playthroughs.. In any case, just keep trying!

Its less than 50%, around 20% I think. It could also be that you have a Diamond Armlet equipped. If you don't, then you're either in the wrong area, or you're just pure unlucky. Anyway, I obtained first time, so I never bothered trying multiple times.

Think I'm just gonna go on a mad mission for it later, go down there, everytime I don't get one, I'm going to reset, reload and try again until I've got atleast 3 of them lol.

I just obtained three of them today, by resetting when I didn't obtain it. It took me 9 resets to obtain all three.

To help you further in cases like this: If a save point is one or two screens away from the item you wish to acquire, save your game, then check if the chest you want is actually there first. If it isn't, go back three areas, and check again. If its there this time, go back to the save point and save. Now, the chest will always be there so long as you don't stray too far away. (specifically three areas away) This method ensures the percentage chances are increased.

However, it is difficult to ascertain what the new chances will be; percentages are also calculated using a random figure which changes every time you enter a city.

I managed two last night, but it took ages. Not complaining though, 10 flan things and 4 seekers, 2000exp everytime you go in there if you fight lol.
