Okay, my university gave me a 2005 copy of McAfee Virus Scan last year. Nice to know we get kitted out with the latest stuff ...

Anyway, this morning and afternoon, my internet was down because they have been pratting around with the connection. Now Ive managed to get on, as you can see, however my Windows Secruity Center is coming up saying that my McAfree Virus Scan reports to be out of date. Im given an option of recommedations, but nothing happens after I click it.

So basically my PC isnt protected agasint any viruses. Firewall and automatic updates are up and running, yet Virus Scan is not up to date. Does anyone know where I can get a 2006 or 2007 copy from please? This is ridiculous as my PC is vunerable to viruses and theres bugger all I can do!

I recommend you use:

Spybot-Search & Destroy.
Ad-Aware SE personal.
AVG free antivirus.
Zone Alarm firewall.

All of the above are free, just look them up on google and they are atleast twise as good as McAfee.

i don't like MacAfee. Windows Vitsa comes with it, which is why everyone says Vista is too over protected. In reality, it's actually the MacAfee which asks "allow or don't allow" for everything, which annoys me. I could delete it and get AVG, but I haven't.

i dont really know much about virus protectors. but ive been using avast antivirus for a few years - it automatically updates itself every week and is really good :)

Well I use Norton internet security i just got the lastest version yesterday it came out like 4 days ago.Well McAfee does suck the only thing that i used from it was the virusscan and firewall thats it.

That's possibly one of the worst anti virus programs IMO. Just Download AVG as your anti virus which is a free then download Zone Alarm firewall which is also free and that's all you will ever need. Just remember, software doesn't need to be expensive to be good, in this case the free stuff is the best.

AVG. It's quite popular, free, and I have had no problems with it. McAfee, I hate it when it runs out. My mum's BF has Norton on his comp :(

McAfee is alright, to update it go on the MaAfee website and go on updates, it will have HUGE update if it says its out of date, you may need to De-Frag before downloading, but then you'll be all nice and new. McAfee is alright but Norton (don't hurt me) is much better.

Amen to that. Though I haven't used Spybot in a while...

Some people seem to be unaware that Symantec actually construct their own viruses to counter their previous Norton releases, forcing the user to purchase an updated version which defends against said virus. Using your subscription and control throughout your computer, they just filter through so much viruses and spyware... it's insane. I don't know why legal action hasn't been taken against this, but eh.

AVG hasn't let a single virus through for me. And although Norton technically has the most defending power, AVG is a pretty close second. You can even purchase a stronger version of AVG if you feel like it, and they don't rip you off like Symantec do.

McAfee firewall is the worst firewall there is, it lets almost any virus in, and a lot of the time, prevents you from sending information over the internet, there were a dozens upon dozens of sites that I couldn't register an account on, so a friend of mine told me to get rid of McAfee, so when I did, my world became clearer.....
