Square Enix has delayed the release of Dragon Question IX in Japan because of a recently discovered "critical bug" in the software.
The DS-exclusive RPG will now launch on 11th July across the region. A European date, the publisher told Eurogamer, remains TBC.
"It has been recently discovered that the software in development contains an unforeseen critical bug," said the Square Enix in a statement.
"Although much effort has been made to fix this bug and test the usability in hopes that the game could still be released on the originally announced date, we have reached an unfortunate conclusion that it would take a longer time to fulfil these tasks.
The DQ IX delay, along with a predicted under-performance of offline games, has caused the RPG specialist to lower yearly earning forecasts by 16 per cent. That represents a loss of JPY 27 billion, or approximately GBP 211 million.

It appears that DQIX's delay could affect FFXIII's release. Regarding the release of the PS3 title, Wada said, "It may be affected by Dragon Quest IX's delay. We'd like to work towards (a release) within fiscal 2009."

Well that sucks. Wish they'd have said what the bug was. Maybe more news will be posted later.

I'm also interested to find out what the bug was. Oh well hopefully FFXIII's date isn't pushed back further, although at this stage I can't say it would bother me too much, seen as I already have to wait until 2010.

I don't really care about DQ:IX being delayed since I don't have a DS (yet).

Ugh, liek we aren't waiting long enough as it is. Oh well, I suppose it's better than them not fixing said bug, whatever it may be. Patience is a fecking virtue :Gasp:

Would the delay be because of a bug that could also be in FF13 OR does SquareEnix not want to their two biggest franchises near each other because they fear it will hurt sales?

If it's in the software, my guess is that it effects all games made with that software.

So basically this means we'll be playing FFXIII by 2015.

Great, looking forward to that year.

If it's in the software, my guess is that it effects all games made with that software.
The thing is, I doubt it is the software because the DS is so different compared to the ps3/360, my guess is SE does not want two of the biggest franchises in Japan to be released close to each other and competing against each other b/c that is likely to hurt sales. But it could be the software, thats what I want to know
