Did we decide that Square Enix News wasn't too crucial? :wacky:

Perhaps a news submission forum would be applicable, no? People post their news, and can read other threads, but can't reply to them so that way, people can make sure News isn't re-posted and No-one is criticised within the forums for writing crappy news. Then if the thread is good enough, it gets moved to SE news.

Then, after a period of time of posting proper news, they can be promoted to forums staff, a position granted under the presquite that staff trusts them to write news that isn't bogus so they can submit it themselves without need of approval.

Riku suggested something less cba, but we know something that someone can actually be easily arsed to do is no fun. Besides, Bogus News could still get through, even with a postcount requirement.
Leik, ZOMG ITS A YEAR OLD FFVII REMAKE CONFIRM LOL. :elmo:

I like this idea Derek, but you know, instead of creating a whole new section, people could just post news in the relevant sections, where they either get closed for being crappy, or moved to SE news because they're good...

Basically, I think you're saying, people wanting to be news reporters should, instead of doing an application form, put up or shut up.

Right?

I guess it could be conveyed that way, but that also sounds equally as good. :monster:

Since I've been brought up, my thoughts were that it was entirely pointless to have a News Reporter at all. It's just a usergroup whose only purpose is to make one person stand out from the rest of us, despite being equally capable of copying/pasting identical links from the exact same site. It was said that the forum was restricted due to spambots and the horrible tendency for the 'Latest News' to continue to advertise whatever the spambots were sent to advertise - in which case, I suggest that we make a prerequisite of 50 posts or so, which simultaneously stops any spambot from posting in the news section and discourages fresh newbies from posting whatever irrelevant dribble that they feel is new, when we've all know about it for months.

To top it all off, I don't believe that the News Reporter has any moderating powers in his section, which just makes him exactly the same as everyone else but with an orange username. Designating all news to go through one person increases the workload for this person, as they'd either have to go looking for it all constantly, or they'd have to filter through whatever piece of news was submitted to them.

Basically, I find the whole thing to be a waste of time and effort.

I am inclined to agree with Riku on this. Just only allow usergroups Members and above. Which are people with over 50 posts. The same requirement to play in the RPG.

It seems like when vbulletin sites get news reporters they end up throwing their pretty orange usernames out and going with a better idea. So I'm with the peeps who want to skip the first step and just go with the better idea.

The thing is, if we don't have a news reporter who can be trusted to post reliable news, we could get a news section flooded with "OMGZ! FF7 REMAEK!!!"

Trust me, it's happened in the FFVII section a lot recently.

Alright, thread is closed. If you have any concerns please PM a moderator or a admin.
