jw as well, what's the AV cable and do I need it?

An AV cable is a cable to hook a PS3 to a TV.

However if you have a High-Definition TV, you probably want a component or HDMI cable instead. It's better-suited "because of better picture and all that". But if you don't have a High-Definition TV, well you can disregard this paragraph.

The AV cable used for the PS3 is the same as the PS2 though, I just use one and switch them back and forth since my PS3 doesn't play PS2 games. So if you've got your PS2 cables, don't bother buying another one. I assume the one you're buying will have a power cord with it at least.

As for controllers, whoever said to buy them online is probably right. They run $50/£32 in stores around here, no idea what they go for there though.

If im not mistaken only the older PS3's are receptive for YLOD..well the newer ones I never heard many issues about that..

YLOD = when the ps3 overheats too much. People that play too long for hours etc.or let the ps3 on for too long..

Never place your PS3 on carpet..carpets accumulate too much warmth..

Place above solid surfice. A surfice that can move away the accumulated heat.

One guy had his PS3 on three cans of empty Coca Cola ..it worked like a charm

I got my Slim PS3 on 4 cd's.. the edges have cd's under it so that my PS3 does not touch the surface..its ace..
