Cloud and Zack

Okay I have beat FFVII numerous times but still do not get how this happened. On dic 3 you can go into the mansion and see a flashback of Zack and Cloud escaping from the mansion and then Zack gets killed by Shinra guys and Cloud takes his sword. (Long run-on sentence I know).

But in the other flashback I'ts Cloud who kills Sephiroth and Zack gets knifed.

So like what the deuce?

The other flashback in which

Zack gets "knifed" (does he really get stabbed?) and Cloud kills Sephiroth is in the Mako reactor in Nibelheim. This is before FFVII takes place and when they're brought to be used as experiments in Hojo's lab. Zack doesn't die right then because they have to escape from the lab. When they escape and Zack is gunned down, Cloud escapes thus beginning FFVII (actually I forget how much time passes between that moment and the game, but that's basically where it picks up).

I think the cutscene your thinking of is the original one that was told in Kalm. That didn't happen the way Cloud recalled it because he told the story from a mixture of Zack's and his perspective. That's why all that changed.
