Cid's FFXIII-2 Q&A booth

Don't know if this has been asked yet or not but is there a way to identify your enemies weakness when you first encounter them now that the technique libra has been taken out of the game? Like maybe an accessory or something?

In terms of stats, they are quite fully customizable. Although one character can't learn 2-3 abilities the other can, for the same role. So in other words, while one is better suited for specific roles, the other character isn't a bad one for the same role either. For example, both Noel and Serah are decent medics but Noel is better since he has more abilities. Yet in a way, Serah is also decent at healing as she has higher magic by default as her weapons are mostly magic oriented, etc.

As long as the monsters are different, even if they are of the same species, they are counted as separate. Hence you can recruit multiple monsters of the same species. You can't however, get more than one identical monster at one time.

If X is a regular monster, you can simply revisit the area where you caught it, and capture it again. If X is a one-time only monster, usually the only thing you can do is reverse time for the area you encountered that monster. Which will require some effort as you have to replay that area, new game+ style.

I think I changed my monster ally team quite a number of times. However, it's not too frequent. The thing is, most monsters you find on the way are not good monsters on their own, BUT most of them have really good abilities that you can fuse with your current team. It's more about fusing rather than changing actual monster team. I fused way more than I changed my team.

I believe the game automatically does this for you, or by manually pressing R1. The data is saved in the bestiary in the menu. Or due to the language barrier, I may have missed a spell called libra, if any.

Since the game is released today, for those getting it soon, I will also accept questions on tips and tricks or if you are stuck in the game. But I can't guarantee whether I can answer the question, especially if it's sidequest related.

Please spoiler tag if you have to include spoilers.

I'd like to add a quick correction to something Cid answered for me:
You can set the game to not default to Auto-Ability before first playthrough. I was super excited.

How far into the game to where Mog teach Serah how to use his skills to find hidden treasures?

Moogle can find invisible treasures in the middle of Bresha ruins. Bresha ruins is after new bodhum. So it's quite near the beginning of the game.

Moogle can then be thrown to get treasures in episode 3B, in the middle of sunleth waterscape. Choose the indoor gate after you complete Bresha ruins to get to ep 3B, if you want to get this ability faster. Choosing the outdoor gate won't give you the ability, but lead you to episode 3A. But nothing is too late. If you choose the wrong gate, simply return to Bresha ruins to choose the other gate that leads to ep 3B. Or you can complete ep 3A first then return to complete 3B and get the ability. You have to complete both 3A and 3B in order to proceed in the story anyway. So this ability isn't missable. Just that you get it sooner, or later.

Ok, my question:
I found the locations in 13-1 reeeeally bland and boring, other than Sunleth Waterscape and that town (Oerba?), so I was wondering if that has been made better?

I'd like to say thanks for answering these questions from everyone. I've had a read through them all and your positivity and you saying about (what I find to be) great improvements on the game have persuaded me that my pre-order was a great investment. I am only now truly looking forward to 13-2 after having read your thread :D

Thanks! Just play the game with an open mind, and don't expect way too much from it, and you should be enjoying at least the gameplay.

Hmm about 'bland' areas, I think it's quite subjective. Sunleth and Oerba are back. In my opinion, there's more interesting areas in XIII-2, but you may not think so. Play the game and decide for yourself =)

Cid-

I am unsure of how the crystarium bonuses work, did you find it better to focus on 1 or 2 roles and then later in the game catch up on the other roles? Or was an all around build better?

It's really up to you how you want to customize them. If you want things to be easier in the main story playthrough, focus on com, rav and med on both characters and get syn or sab for each char. If you really don't want to take risks, go gamefaqs forums. I think there's one guide for crystarium by someone. I'm just someone who played through the game once and hence I don't have much knowledge on the 'best' way to level up roles.

I said before, I won't be able to answer questions regarding sidequests. I'm only able to help you when you are stuck somewhere in the main story quest, and perhaps some quick tips and tricks.

It will take ages to describe where the fragments are. Most optional fragments require sidequests, etc. Even if I know where they are, It's very hard to point out exactly where, as some fragments are found on the field too. Not to mention the language barrier I experienced while playing the game in Japanese. Maybe you should get the guide book or wait for a guide in the Internet. Sorry because I can't help much.

Cid- thanks man. I'll check it out.

I am thinking that this time I will sorta of go role specific for each of them and if I ever play it through again I might try to do more balanced.

EDIT: I heard from someone that when you get to the game's casino, there will be an in-game guide on where to get the fragments, or something like that. I may not have realised this because I can't read Japanese, but if this is really true, I think that in-game guide can help you out.

Alright I'm stuck and have been stuck for a few hours. :gasp:
I ran around Augustus tower for hours in a circle and got the access key 50 and now I have no idea what to do?

So you are now in episode 3 side B?
Simply go back to Bresha ruins, and enter the other gate that is located indoors. You will then start episode 3 side A.

Well sorry if I'm referring to the wrong episode. If so, could you please give more details on which AF and which episode you are in?

In what chapter do I get to enter the coliseum?

That should be in chapter 4. But it's for story reasons. And you don't fight Omega there even if you have the DLC. There will be a separate coliseum gate for omega.

Thank and I am looking for a place to grind CP, what is a good place to get a good amount amount CP after each battle?

On my first go through the sunleth waterscape i went straight to the most north gate and went to the steppe. I did everything required in the steppe and went to the gate to go back to the sunleth. Nothing changed so i looked on the internet and found i needed to unlock the second gate...which i did. Still, the flan is the same (big and red, i cannot seem to trigger the green smaller boss), nothing has changed and i cannot seem to get it to work. >.<
Both the gate are active
I tried pausing and simple returning to historia crus and coming back that way. didnt work.
I tried going back to the steppe andcoming through that way. didnt work. >.<
Am i missing something here?

p.s i have 0/2 fragments, could that have something to do with it?

Can you please specify where are you in the game? Well I'm just going to assume you are near the end. A good grinding place for CP and lvl3 biological monster material is the Dying World AF700. New Bodhum AF700 is a good place too.

Are you really sure you have done everything mandatory in the steppe? Have you fought the dragon boss (I forgot his name) in the steppe?
