Have you ever been playing a game, and a cut scene comes on or a dialgue box comes up and the character talking will just not stop? It goes on and on and you've long lost interest in what they are talking about?

I was playing Eternal Sonata the other night and I get to the part where a certain love interest of a character is killed. Before dying she just keeps talking and talking about how she wasn't her true self, how she was jealous, and how she loved this character. The even had to replay scenes that JUST HAPPENED. About halfway through I kept thinking "Stop monologuing and die already!"

That part brought out my inner rage.

Every Boss that dies in Metal Gear: Solid. Okay, yeah. It was kinda cool how the game actually gave it's antagonists back stories. But my God. Sniper Wolf gets lung shot and manages to continue talking with little effort. That seems pretty fucking outrageous.

Also, Kain in the first Blood Omen. I'm not actually gonna complain about this one. But it's like they were so happy to have his character comment on everything that they give him every single possible chance to do so. That wouldn't be so bad except for the fact that the audio seems to cancel out the loading screens so if you need to go to another area, you have to wait until the audio stops first. But I love Simon Templeman's voice acting so again I'm not really complaining on this one.

I would like to include characters that talk about the same goddamn thing over and over as well as useless and needlessly elongated dialogue:

-Almost everyone in XIII.

Dialogue and monologue that has nothing to do with the main plot, mostly characters bitching about their poorly written pasts expecting us to give a shit.

-Almost everyone in X

Same reason as above, only it does this thing where it wants to remind you what the characters' opinions are. Wakka: Yevon, Machina, Yevon, Machina. Yevon, Machina. Yevon, Machina, Al Bhed. Yevon, Machina.

-Almost everyone in VIII

Honestly when I first played this game, which is when I was 8 and granted my English was at it's baby-phase, I couldn't understand shit. These people are the most unconvincing military force in the history of fiction, And the villain wants to do what? Huh? Basically it's just unsuitable dialogue, as if they're kids, which is what they are. Fucking 17 year olds aren't mercenaries, they play D&D and Super Smash.

-Ar Tonelico is stock anime nonesense, so there came a point in the game when I just skipped everything and understood what the characters were saying simply by looking at the change in their avatar's expressions.

-Xenogears had a little too much dialogue. Some paraphrasing and summarizing would have helped.

Hmm...to name but four that immediately spring to mind...

1) Kraden (Golden Sun) - This guy takes the prize. He's the very definition of a stereotypical old guide character. STOP GIVING ME A HISTORY LESSON AND LET ME CLIMB THE DAMNED MOUNTAIN. In the second game he's even worse, since he's actually with the party for the entire time - he's never around to help, but he has plenty of advice to give. The worst thing is, none of what he has to say is even remotely interesting.

2) Everyone (Metal Gear Solid) - As awesome as the first game is, its about fives hours of actual gameplay and fifteen hours of listening to people talk, and at times (times when Liquid Snake isn't on screen, of course) it can get very tedious. Yes, stopping these people is very important, but if we don't actually DO something, Rex will be stomping through cities before we get anywhere. I'm amazed Snake didn't get caught standing around during his codec conversations, given how long they were. With patrols that lax, he really wasn't needed, was he?

3) Knight Commander Meredith (Dragon Age 2) - If she spent half as much time actually KILLING mages as she did talking about it, then
she wouldn't have needed my help to do it in the finale. Also, those convenient stun moments to allow her to monologue did not amuse me at all. YOU DON'T JUST STAND IN A SINGLE SPOT WHILST EVERYONE IS STUNNED! :rage:

4) Samus Aran (Metroid: Other M) - Oh god, shut up, shut up, PLEASE. I don't care about how wet you are for Adam, despite the fact that he a) shoots you in the back in an area populated by Metroids, b) treats you like a doormat and c) is at least double your age. Listening to Samus monologue in Other M was more painful than I can put into words...

Recently, I have only been playing one game that had a character who just wouldn't shut up. Its nothing like your game or anything, it was actually a Pokemon game. I've been playing Pokemon Black and one of the player's friends is always talking and talking and talking and when she isn't talking, she's crying for help or battling you over and over again just to lose and whine about it.

Another game is Halo 3. I'm like "shut and let me friggin' kill things already!"

Other than, I haven't encountered characters that won't shut up...at least not recently. :P

About halfway through I kept thinking "Stop monologuing and die already!"
