Character Development...

Did anyone else think the character development in this game was horrible? I liked how in previous FF game I could see the characters develop in strength, defense, speed, and other things like that but in this game it was different. In this game it seemed as if the characters relied more on their weapons and armor more than their own skills. What do you think?

Its the ff9 style with a board with abilities and augments...i think its better than some other ff, like 10 and the 8...gives more freedom when raising characters and defining battle tactics.
