Despite my GMod status, I have no clue where this should go. lol I thought this would be an interesting topic because there are probably so many of us who have played RPGs other than FF's that function on an attribution system. (Example: RPG Inferno) I'm just wondering where you typically put attribution points when you can't alter them after the fact. (Assume that the game was so lifelike that you actually carried these abilities)

So if you had 20 points (*) to spread over these 9 categories, where would you put it and why?

Health Points
Magic Points
Strength
Defense
Magic Strength
Magic Defense
Speed
Dexterity
Evasion

This would be mine:

Magic Points

Defense *****
Magic Strength
Magic Defense
Speed ****
Dexterity **
Evasion

I'm definitely a physical hitter so I would put a lot of my attribute points in strength. However, I see myself more as a tank type character so I would go for defense and not evasion. Defense can be ignored sometimes without it heavily affecting your character. Evasion always has to be far ahead of the enemy's dexterity or when you get hit you'll really get hurt. So I usually take a medium defense and supplement that with good speed. That way my tank character doesn't fall victim to speed issues like most stereotypical tanks do. Just enough Dexterity to be able to hit the opponent most of the time. I was going to add a point to magic strength for healing but I swapped it out for higher defense.

I'd put most of mine on strength as well, I wouldn't rely on magic too much either, because you know, it costs MP, mana, energy, whatever. I put quite a bit on evasion and speed, because they actually get you somewhere. I didn't put too much on dexterity though --- I have no idea why. I didn't put anything on health points because, if you're speedy enough and dodgy enough, you can beat anything without having absurd amounts of HP.

That's a testament to my own character in the RPG Inferno
:P

Just out of curiosity, why would you divide up evasion and defense points? Either you dodge the attack or you take the attack. But to be very successful you should be either one or the other, wouldn't you think?

I would've said it would be a balance, but being distinctly one or the other would be, most likely, much better. I mean, if you get hit, you lose HP, don't get hit, you obviously don't lose anything.

You can also be really strong defensively {like say, Golem, or something, big rock} but really cruddy evasively.

So you mean where do you put attributes when playing games such as Oblivion or anything made by Black Isle? Or Blizzard...

I usually play a mage so...as for mage:

Health Points ***
Magic Points *******
Strength
Defense
Magic Strength *******
Magic Defense ***
Speed
Dexterity
Evasion

You don't need much defense if your running around blasting spells. You need magic strength and a large mana pool. The more magic strength you have the faster it is to kill enemies. As a mage you need some magic defense because of magic caster enemies.
