While I understand that creating multiple threads of the same name is annoying having mods getting onto members for not checking to see if there was a thread on a similar topic that was last posted in 9 months ago is taking it too far.

But going along with what the creater of the new Mario + Sonic Olympics thread says a problem is members probably don't change the default cutoff point for viewing threads which is 2 months if even that. Can it be set so it's 6 months possibly? It'll greaten the chances that an old thread will be seen and won't be repeated.

You could even manually set the cut-off to show "all threads," as I have done. Members who can't or don't know how to do that generally don't sound like forum-wise people and so I wouldn't expect them to look for existing threads anyway.

It's more likely that they can't be bothered looking it up to begin with, I didn't change it til a few months ago myself, it should really show all threads as the default anyway. And in the thread I've mentioned the guy actually says that he thinks it's disappeared when if it was set up to look further back it would have been seen clear as day on the first page.

It might not completely solve the problem but it should at least help newer members a bit.

Aye, sorry, the point of my post did get a bit de-railed. If anything's going to be changed, set the forum default to "view all threads." It shouldn't be a problem - if InvisionFree and InvisionPowerBoards can do it, vBulletin shouldn't have a problem. I'm sure I saw it myself when I was a GMod.
