Carbuncle and Reflect - Useless?

I'm positive it goes like this:

Normal: Protect + Reflect
Emerald equipped: Protect + Haste
Moonstone equipped: Protect + Shell
Diamond equipped: Protect + Vanish

I tried the Emerald version once. Was very useful

Well I mentioned at the beginning of the thread about the stones. >_> I just thought without any of those stones with his full animation he cast protect as a bonus. Honestly, I wouldn't waste Eiko's accessory space for those stones. They don't offer any +stats and it's better off to equip a better accessory item. Especially for a boss fight.

Reflect can be useful when it comes to certain status/magic casting enemies. (I'm not sure if reflect bounces off Blue magic spells...) I just don't bother wasting my time with reflect because I rather end the monster encounter fast.

Hmmm. I think the usefulness of Carbuncle and the reflect spell vary with each game. I never used Reflect once on FFVII. In FVIII I love Carbuncle's junctioning abilities. They're great. But reflect itself isn't very useful, even against magic using enemies. The main problem with Reflect, as others have pointed out, is that it bounces white magic off you, so you can't heal.
In FFX, however, Reflect became a life saver in a battle against Seymour (it's the second one, I think.)

I never used reflect or carbuncle it annoyed me because I'd ALWAYS forget and fluff things up. Carbuncle was only good for it's abilities in VIII, I think I only used it once during that first fight against Edea and I forgot and ended up curing her more than once. Can't say I've ever bothered since. I hate reflect >.<

The only time i found it usefil in X was on that monstery thing that Yunalesca sends after you leave Mt Gagazet (I think it was there - can't remember) I think Icast it on it because it kept healing itself.....and thats about it really

Carbuncle? I didn't play IX but in VIII Carbuncle was so useless. I never really use reflect unless playing around with it. So, yeah. Having that move as a summon was really lame.

I hate keeping up which character had reflect and using my items and such. It was just annoying. =). Carbuncle needs to do something different.

I'm totally in agreement here with the original poster. I hated Reflect and never used Carbuncle as a GF nor Esper. I only used it for abilities and any stat-boosting it would do in its incarnations.

Well Reflect can be both dangerous to use and useful to use.

In FF6 in Fanatics Tower some monsters first cast Reflect on you and then they reflect some strong magic from themselves onto you.

And useful if you fight a monster that uses only magic on you like Magic Master or when fighting Edea on her parade vehicle.

I hate Reflect and Carbuncle! Sometimes it helps most of the times it doesn't! if your fighting someone who does a magic spell every turn he gets then reflect or Carbuncle comes in handy! The only times id use Carbuncle or reflect is when the enemy keeps curing its self then id cast reflect on the enemy so it can backfire and heal me instead. So basicly,reflect is useful and useless.
