Anyone listened to them yet? If you're familiar with AFI, I'm sure you know about Blaqk Audio and its founder Davey Havok and Jade Puget. They are both members of AFI, but they created this electronic project. They recently released their first new album, CexCells, and what awesome lyrics and music.

I love Davey Havock's voice. He's so talented, being able to alter his voice from deep to high tone. I've never heard any songs from AFI yet, and I doubt I will anytime soon. Right now I'm just really into Blaqk Audio. I was reading the lyrics the other day and singing along to all the songs - I seriously enjoyed it.

What I noticed about their lyrics is that they are somewhat riddles and almost poetic. I have a hard time trying to comprehend the meaning behind them. For instance, Bitter for Sweet...

Can you tell me what stopped the rain?
Where is salvation?
Science, saviors, tragedy?
May I lead the way into temptation?
Sirens screaming just for me
And the void remains.

Would you save my life
If you knew why this is the last time?
I'm leaving without you in silence.
Could you save my life
Had the boy that you knew not died?
This is the last time.
I'm leaving with out you in silence.

Can you tell me what stops the pain?
Self medication?
Science, saviors, tragedy?
How deep must we cut to reach sensation?
Find it. Bring it back to me
Where the void remains.

Would you save my life
If you knew why this is the last time?
I'm leaving without you in silence.
Could you save my life

Had the boy that you knew not died?
This is the last time.
I'm leaving with out you in silence.

Walk with me my one and only
Find with me the end.
Walk with me my one and only silence.

Would you save my life
If you knew why this is the last time?
I'm leaving without you in silence.
Could you save my life
Had the boy that you knew not died?
This is the last time.
I'm leaving with out you in silence.

Could you save my life?
This is the last time.
I'm leaving with out you in silence.

If you knew...
Would you save me?
Can you tell me what stopped the rain?
Can you tell me what stopped it?
If you knew...
Would you save me?

My friends and I were trying to figure out what it meant...we had our own views, but yeah...you get the gist. It's fun trying to figure out all their lyrics.

I downloaded this album when it came out, it's awesome. And Davey's deep voice he uses on the album is teh secks ^_^

Davey has always done that riddle/hidden meaning thing so well, it's even in the name of the album, "Cex Cells." I love how Davey always hides meanings in his words and doesn't make them blatantly obvious.

Too many artists these days make their lyrics/meanings so obvious and while it's great if you can relate to something, it's so much cooler when an artist leaves their song open to interpretation so lots more people can relate to it in their own way. That's one of the best things about Davey Havok and Serj Tankian ^_^

Oh and as a side note, I'm going to (in my little fantasy world) count Cex Cell's as AFI's new album and not Decemberunderground. I don't want to acknowledge that album's existence.

It's a great album, yes. And I agree with you - the lyrics are just supreme. I heard that they have 3 different hidden tracks to their album...like if you go in one store (let's say Best Buy, for instance), one hidden track will be revealed, but if you go in another different store, (say, Circuit City), there will be a different hidden track. Hmm, yeah I think the 3 different stores are Best Buy, Circuit City, and Hot Topic...

I have the one with Mute as the hidden track (bought it from Best Buy), and I heard that it's the best hidden track out of the three. ^_^ I haven't listened to the other two yet, which is...I believe, Black Electric and Girls and Boys.

I seriously love all the songs, except for one which I don't really care for very much. Between Breaths - a song about sex. (It did say XX perspective) Plus I didn't like the way it sounded...it was very different from the rest of the songs.

Aww crap, are you serious, there's bonus tracks? I just downloaded the album off SoulSeek and didn't see any bonus songs.

*searches again*

I don't see any bonus songs T_T But I agree, I don't really understand Between Breaths...it's not exactly something Havok would write...and he's supposed to be straight edge too.

Here I'll link them to you, Venge.

Black Electric - http://youtube.com/watch?v=UGsGlgH_Inc - That one sounds okay, nothing special.

Girls and Boys - http://youtube.com/watch?v=eeD6ybbcOO4 - So-so.

And finally, Mute, which is the best one out of the three, IMO. http://youtube.com/watch?v=pioBoBofvxI

And the lyrics for Mute is:

Kiss or kill, like cry or cut, like the virgin ice of an early winter
waiting to drown with just one step - with just one misstep -
I go under.

Such a beautiful mess, pretend that you're appalled.
In a sin tight dress confess and bare it all.

Kiss or kill, like kiss or kill, like kiss or kill, like this...

Scream through dreams that cut your voice off.
Wide awake will nothing soothe?
With one word I'd take this pain from you
but I fall mute.

It seems the sweet sixteen went sour so long ago.
The evening gown was cleaned but the slip
always seemed to show.

Scream through dreams that cut your voice off.
Wide awake will nothing soothe?
With one word I'd take this pain from you
but I fall mute.

I heard you cry in my distance.
I heard the lies through all the tears.
I was denied and left distant.
I heard you fell, well I'm still here

I heard you cry in my distance
You fucking lied, well I'm still here.

Scream through dreams that cut your voice off.
Wide awake will nothing soothe?
With one word I'd take this pain from you
but I fall mute.

----- o -----

"You fucking lied" - I seriously love that line. xD He sounded so pissed and there was so much emotion when he sang that part.

And I just now heard that song "Miss Murder" from AFI. I saw the video too...what's the deal with all those rabbits? o.o Very cool song though. Again, I can't really understand what the meaning behind the song and lyrics are...some say it's about a woman, some say it's about Hitler, etc...

EDIT: Nevermind, I just now read the lyrics. I have an idea.

I managed to download all the bonus tracks! *happy dances* Black Electric is good and Mute is awesome. I absolutely love the "sweet dreams" chorus, how his voice all high and the music gets all bouncy and stuff. And of course you can hear the emotion in his voice with "you fucking lied", it's Davey, he's awesome at that and his voice is awesome anyway ^_^

If Only is alright but it doesn't get good till it's almost over, and Boys & Girls is...well that one is odd o_O The music is so strange, but the chorus of...

Girls who are boys
Who like boys to be girls
Who do boys like they're girls
Who do girls like they're boys
Always should be someone you really love

...sounds almost to me like he's talking about the ridiculous emo trends of being bi and flippantly making out with everyone and how boys and girls look so similar you can't tell the difference between them. *shrugs* That's what I get out of it anyway, could just be me hating emos xD

And I'm actually starting to like Between Breaths better, most of the album seems to revolve around love or relationships, and Between Breaths covers the sexual aspect of it. That "climb on top" part just sounds too sincere to me to just be straight horniness.

Aww, damn...I was hoping Davey was trying to slam emo fads. Well it still could apply...in my mind, anyway <.<

So apparently there's another B-side called "Black-Ink Style"? Crap.....I can't find that anywhere.

Its actually about a man who commits suicide after his lover (a woman) kills herself first. Its not about hitler lolz...

People only say it's about Hitler because they see Davey singing to the masses in a uniform and go "ZOMG NAZI DAVEY!"

Is it just me or is Davey's deep voice he uses in several of Blaqk Audio's songs (like Snuff on Digital) just teh secks?

It's not just you. =) I do love how he's able to alter his tones in different levels. I keep thinking that there's two vocalists or something. o.o He's THAT talented.

After he had that cyst in his throat his voice got even more high pitched (which I didn't really mind), then he pulled out those growls on Miss Murder and Kill Caustic, and now he's doing his deep voice on Blaqk Audio, it's almost enough to make my ears orgasm.

So let's see, aside from the bonus songs, what're your favorite tracks on CexCells? I think mine are Stiff Kittens, Snuff On Digital, Where Would You Like Them Left?...and beyond that everything runs about even.

Oh btw, does the beginning of The Fear of Being Found sound like something out of FF7 to you? It reminds me alot of Flowers Blooming In the Church.

My favorites are...Bitter for Sweet, Semiotic Love, Snuff on Digital, On A Friday, Where Would You Like Them Left?...

Oh gee, I like all of them except Between Breaths. xD But yeah, those ones listed are mainly my favorites.

And...what's B-sides? o_O There's If Only and Blank-Ink Style...never heard it yet.

Hmm, and you're kinda right...The Fear of Being Found's beginning does sound a bit like out of FF7...

It's hard to pick favorites >_< Between Breaths has actually grown on me a bit, although it's still very different sounding from the rest of the album...

Yeah, If Only and Black-Ink Style are the only B-sides, I'm not sure if they've even released Black-Ink Style anywhere. Or were you asking what ARE B-sides? *scratches head* Sorry, I'm a tad worn out from arguing with that hippie troll Finnegan.

Every time The Fear of Being Found plays I always think iTunes has skipped onto Uematsu's stuff xD

Always been a fan of Davey.

I've heard their song Stiff Kittens on the radio, and I like it. I might buy Cex Cells just to see how the rest of the album sounds, and the lyrics you have posted have also piqued my interest. I'm a sucker for metaphors and meaningful songs.

I seriously love all the songs, except for one which I don't really care for very much. Between Breaths - a song about sex. (It did say XX perspective)

Hah, I guess I misjudged the whole meaning of the song. "Cex Cells". I just realized a few weeks ago that it's also like, "Sex Sells" or "Sex Cells" (meaning the sex chromosomes X or Y, for example.) So, XX perspective means it's a female perspective. I've always thought that it's only a male perspective since Davey was the one singing it. Naturally, I assumed that. But I guess in this song (Between Breaths), he is vocalizing BOTH genders. Directly he's vocalizing the female perspective, really...but indirectly, he is also vocalizing the male perspective when he says, "Please, please please don't take it... Take it, take it, take it easy on me. Just make it. Make it, make it, make it harder to breathe."
