It's that time of year again: welcome to Birthweek 2015! If you've been around the FFF for the past couple of years, you'll have noticed Final Fantasy music taking a big focus on the site through two series of articles both written by me and supplemented by numerous other articles and forum posts from the rest of you fine folks! So what better way to celebrate another year for the FFF than by making some music of our own? Warm up your voices, or don your instrument of choice, because this is the Final Fantasy Forums fan cover competition!
Here's the lowdown:
-Submissions must be based on music from any Final Fantasy game or movie, but don't have to imitate the source material. Feel free to arrange, remix, or otherwise reinterpret your song of choice! Original lyrics are welcome! That being said, simply paying homage to your favorite piece by recreating it as faithfully as possible is fine, too!
-Submissions can be either vocal or instrumental. Virtual instruments included! Whatever you know how to make music with is welcome. Karaoke tracks for vocal covers are A-OK.
-If you're not that musical, that's ok! First rule is just to have fun with it!
-Submissions should be sent to me, Kirito , via private message by Saturday, June 20. Judging will proceed through the end of the month in a public poll. Please do not vote for your own submission--give everyone else's hard work a listen, too!
-Covers should ideally be submitted in MP3 format, but other formats are fine (I can convert practically anything, videos included). Submissions will be uploaded to SoundCloud so they can be embedded in the poll. Even better, if you have your own SoundCloud account you can also just submit the link to your cover.
As always, there will be three winners running in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, but this year the prizes will be dealt a bit differently through the new Birthweek Points system. Here's how it works:
1st place: 5 BWP + 300 Gil
2nd place: 3 BWP + 100 Gil
3rd place: 2 BWP + 50 Gil
...and everyone will score 1 BWP + 25 Gil just for participating!
To learn more about Birthweek Points, read up about them on the main Birthweek 2015 post.
Again, submissions are open TODAY (June 1st) through Saturday, June 20. From Sunday, June 21st submissions will be closed and judging will begin in a public poll, which will remain open until the 30th, at which point the winners will be decided! Good luck, everyone!
