Beyond Xehanort

So it's now common knowledge that KH3 will be drawing a line under the Xehanort Saga once and for all...but what about after that? Tetsuya Nomura, the games' director, confirmed that Kingdom Hearts will continue beyond the Xehanort Saga and that Sora will still be the main character throughout the series.

While we have no other information beyond this, what we can do is use this period of silence to come up with outlandish or creative suggestions for Kingdom Hearts after the Xehanort Saga. The way I see it, there are two main paths:

1) continue fighting Heartless and Nobodies with a new direction (could become redundant/unsuccessful and/or repetitve), or

2) a completely new concept of enemy will appear, forcing Sora to embark on a completely original quest.

Basically, if you've ever had any ideas for fanfiction or anything you wish would've happened to change previous stories, this is your chance to voice it. What if Riku succumbs to the darkness and finally turns in to a Heartless? What would his Nobody be like? Imagine a story where Riku's trying to do what Pete was doing - turn everyone in to Heartless and throw worlds in to darkness. How would Sora cope with fighting his best friend once again? How would he help him? What if Riku killed Kairi in the process, or even recruited her...what then?

Maleficent's still on the prowl...what if she imprisoned or even took out Mickey? How might that go?

Would Final Fantasy villains be able to unite in some way?

Endless opportunities are available...be creative, guys!

Since Sora will be the Hero, for like, the rest of the series, I believe that Riku may end up becoming a Villain. As you said, he might succumb to the still lingering darkness in his heart. I hope so, as I like Riku and seeing him as a villain again would be awesome. Maybe there is someone else in the KH universe that can become an enemy, though.

Maybe one of the Final Fantasy characters may become a villain? I am not sure who, but someone from the Final Fantasy universe might become a villain?

Going back to what I said about Sora being the Hero for the entire series, I hope he isn't. After Xehanort, I want to see someone else in the driver's seat. That would make the series fresh again. A new keyblade wielder, maybe someone not so heroic as Sora?

And as for Malificient, I think she may be gone. It was revealed in Coded that she survived with Pete, only to get erased in the events of Coded. Knowing her, she may have survived, but I'm not sure. She could be a candidate for final villain, too

Well actually, Sora being the main character of the series would kind of get just as repetative as your first idea (which I can and cannot agree with, for reasons I will not state).

From what I've seen in Fanfiction, as well as the Kingdom hearts RP's I've seen done (Siver Shadow's RP and my Unsung War Trilogy RP) it would be best that Sora's role be smaller (be it either still as a major character or as a minor character this time.) and a new protagonist be used.

Well, since Sora's the hero(thank god!)I will go with a new big bad appearing. They've already done the Riku as the bad guy thing, so it's time for something new.

The KH series as always been unique so I'm expecting the newer installment to be just as unique as the last two. I just hope they don't start doing some freaking retcons and stuff. That would be annoying.

I do hope FF characters play a slightly more important role, not in our faces but I want them to DO something at least. That would be cool.
