Battlefield XXXX

my roots don't lie into RPG, no no, my gaming roots lie in first person shooters
my very first was Half Life, and counter strike, i very much enjoyed those, however there was 1 shooter series that beat it pretty darn hard
the battlefield series

myself i was a real fan of Battlefield 1942, the 2nd world war version
i liked the authentic weaponry and vehicles, they were simple, no science fiction bullshit and all that... however, the gameplay became primitive when eventually Battlefield 2 came out, which i played afterwards, skipped vietnam btw, and now they have also a futurictic game, 2142 if i'm not mistaken(numbers were never my strength)
which i have enjoyed quite a lot when i got a hang of it

now my question
did any here also play one of these, also which one did you enjoy, and why?

EDIT: i have let out possible mods and booster packs, as i don't see these as true BF games

Oh man, I love this subject. I've been playing BF games since they came out. 2 is my favorite by far and I have all the expansions. 2142 is OK, but I prefer 2 by a huge margin. 2 has amazing levels and amazing graphics. Only bad thing was that I had to put 2k down for a new computer. ALL worth it though.

I despise the Battlefield series. I think the maps are to big, the vehicles are overpowered and the game is, in general, far too slow.

For me, once you've played CS Source no other FPS will compare, thanks to the tension caused by the knowledge that at any moment you could be awped or headshotted out of nowhere.

Battlefield games for me are so so boring. I've played Vietnam/2/2142 and none of them compare to CS IMO.

i played CS , both versions, never really liked it, it's good if you like close combat, but i'm a sniper fanatic, in CS i was a scout specialist, in BF1942, i was a sniper(sometimes medic if my clan needed them), in BF2 also medic or sniper, in BF2142, sniper all the way, the problem is, eventhough i get most kills i usually end up somewhere on the lower tiers of the scoreboard, simply cause snipers kill, and do nothing else, i can't go to capture points, or heal friends, or resupply ammunition, cause i suck a close range and i don't have anything like resupply or heals, wish they reviewed the sniper system with an extra point everytime you kill with a headshot(which happen 80% of the time with me)

but i still love playing the coward and shooting from a huge range(love the new zooming system in BF2142 where i can make more accurate shots)
