this time about the pole weapon. You may think it will be good with about anybody, but its not. It actually goes by a characters magic power. so if it were between Basch, and Penelo, Penelo would be more effective with it.

Yes, you're right. I realized that when I gave it to Balthier, and it was horrible. I then gave it to Penelo and she was a lot better than Balthier with it.
Penelo is one of the, well more mage types, along with Ashe, only Ashe can be just as effective with it seeing as she can have both high magic and stregnth.
Its all the poles. And they are extremely useful for your magic users, for when you run out of mp you still have a strong physical attack.
my magic user has the saggitarius bow...and uses charge a lot so i never run out of mp, if it really does get dire though, i just syphon mp off Basch - he's always got loads cause he gains it by hitting enemies.

I read that Penelo is the best mage and with Ashe behind her. Just aswell since they were my 2 mages for my 2 parties. I also gave Penelo the pole until I gave her a rod.

Wow... Why would you even give a weapon to Penelo? She'd only drop it... No - seriously, my Penelo exists to chew up bosses in battle while someone heals an important character - namely Ashe or Fran.
I wouldn't give her a rod unless I had Rod of Faith :\
Rods in general to me are pretty useless. Naturally she has high magic along with equiping Mystic Armor
You do know that any character can be pretty easily suited for any build right? There are small differences in the characters stats, like Penelo has 1 more speed than Vaan does and maybe a bit more magic (although I never bothered looking much at her stats), but once you dump them in the same armor they should be pretty much the same.

You are a pole LOL, na erm well i never used a pole cause well i havent played FF since i bought my PS3 so i guess i wont find out till PS3 eats doodle.
Actually no. I've given everyone heavy armor before and Penelo always was the lowest by like 5 or more. It is pretty easy to get them all balanced though, but some like Basch just aren't suited for magic.

i have ashe set as my paladin tank. She's awesome at taking light damage and healing big to keep the hate. Does hate work the same way in this game as it does in ffxi? Since ashe always has full mp getting drilled on, she's a supurb tank! Bashe takes too much damage to be a decent tank. i have the best armor on both of them at level 44.
I don't use the poles often if at all but Vaan is my best magic user and second is Penelo so if I wanted to get a powerful one I would give it to Vaan before Penelo right now.

Poles go down as my second favourite weapon catagory, they seem to be a good all-rounder with a good block and combo rate..... Ninja swords being the best (Yagu Darkblade + Hermes Sandals = Mmmm tasty)
