Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles

Has anyone read these books? I got hooked onto 'em while reading Interview with the Vampire. Sorta bummed now that I've completed all the books.

Great series...though it's creepy how the vampires seem to gain sexual pleasure from drinking each other's blood.

I'm not exactly familiar with Anne Rice, but I've heard good reviews from many people. We only own three of the books, which are The Queen of the Damned, Interview with the Vampire, and The Vampire Lestat. I actually started reading The Vampire Lestat a few years ago, but I only got half-way through the book. It was pretty entertaining but personally, it's just not my type of book. I'll have to dig it up again sometime though and give it a second chance.

Yeah, I was a big fan for YEARS of that and the Lives of the Mayfair Witches. I absolutely loved the chronicles! My favorites were Interview and the Vampire Lestat. Well, my passion has died over the years and it was finally put out, completely, with Blood Canticle. Ah, I can still remember the good books though. I most certainly don't want to recall the recent ones for fear that the gag reflex might come on.

I read & really liked Interview, but mainly just for Claudia, who was a GREAT character...I read most of The Vampire Lestat, but it just got too gay (literally & figuratively) for my tastes...>_>

If you're into yaoi & vampires, Rice is right up your ally...

I loved just about every character. Armand was my personal favorite.

I haven't picked up some of the more recent books, but by the sounds of it, that's a good thing. I wouldn't want to taint my love of 'em.

Well if you do dig 'em out someday, ma'am, make sure you read 'em in order. Might get a little confused if you begin with, say, Queen of the Damned.

The Chronicles should've just been a trilogy. Interview was great. The Vampire Lestat was my favorite of the series, but it had major issues (and Anne rather crudely attempts to dismiss her pitfalls with a clumsy excuse in the beginning of the book). The Queen of the Damned is so-so, but had an epic-enough scope to be a decent capstone. And as far as I'm concerned, the rest of the series is apocryphal.

The sexual aspect, which felt intriguing in the first books got intensely indulgent as the series went on (it got unbearable during The Vampire Armand). Memnoch the Devil was pretty much entirely contrived for shock factor.

It's kind of funny the way that the series started to slump. One could even see that Queen of the Damned tapers off. It starts off with a pretty intriguing premise... but it ends with Lestat going after Louis in an almost romantic-comedy-esque sequence (there's even a "He might still be at the airport" moment).

But the crappy aspects aside...

Louis is a wonderfully complex character. And I liked the fact that he gets developed a lot in The Vampire Lestat despite not being even mentioned for a long time - however much about his character gets a new turn just by getting a perspective from a different vampire.

Lestat is awesome - but that's pretty obvious considering he's the narrator for pretty much the rest of the way.

Claudia... I found her somewhat irritating when she was being affectionate. I loved her when she was a little devil (one of my favorite scenes will always be the one where she carries out the murder attempt on Lestat).

Hated Armand, and especially hate that he charmed Louis, because I'm a total supporter of Louis and Lestat being exclusive gayvamps together.

Has anyone read 'Pandora'? It was my first Rice novel and it was great. I loved reading this book that starts in ancient rome and ends in the present. I recommend. 27 thumbs up!
