I was wondering if there were any fans of this series here on the forums?

I have heard alot of hype over Twilight and with that being said Vampire everything is coming into a crazed popularity. However, this book series began in the 90's and continues till this day. In total there are around 16 books in this series, not including spin offs.

The story focuses on Anita Blake, a vampire executioner who encounters many a mythical creature on her journey. Anita isn't an ordinary executioner she is also a licensed necromancer and raising the dead for a living. Now the twist with this story is that vampires aren't evil beings, lurking in the shadows ready to suck your blood. O.k well ok they are but the difference is that in AB world Vampires are legal citizens. They have rights, own businesses and converse with normal folk. Anita gets mixed up with a group of vampires in the first novel and then gets sucked into their world therein after.

But I warn you this isn't Twilight. No tame teen romance. Anita is a tough and somewhat cold woman who can be quite cruel to others. There is alot of blood and gore and as the books progress a fair bit of sex, who am I kidding some of the books turn into nothing but a readable porno.

I recommend books 1-9. I occassionally pick up one of the later series to check in on the characters but she seems to have lost the plot a bit and focused more on sex. But Laurell's writing style is quite unique and this woman really does her research. No made up crappy vampire mythology. Plus not only does she write about vampires but also, werewolves, shape-shifters, faeries, demons, zombies, necromancers, witches, magicians, assassins, mythical beasts and some other pretty insane stuff. Its very addictive reading and not really cheesy or predictable. Characters actually die and you will find yourself becoming heavily invested with the characters.

Despite the fact I don't like many after 9 and grew to really dislike the character of Anita I really enjoyed reading about everyone else.
