What is your opinion of alternative medication? Have you ever tried any?

Over the past few months, I've had a severe increase in anxiety. I don't know if it is because so many things in my life are suddenly changing or what.

I've always had a lot of anxiety, but I was always able to manage it. But with the recent increase and a recent event that had it sky rocket even further, I finally conceeded and got some medication. I really hate taking medication and I wanted to overcome the anxiety myself, so it was very hard for me to take that step.

However, I have been trying other things along with the medication. I was never one for "alternative or new age medication" but I figured I had nothing to lose, so I'd try some.

First, I tried aromatherapy. I bought some stress relief lotion and body wash from bath and body works. And it seems to work initially. However, I feel like i need to reapply it during the day for it to continue to be affective. It is nice to wake up to though.

I also go to youtube and listen to meditation music. Some are supposed to have a subliminal message within it that is supposed to help you relax. I'll admit that I do feel better after listening to it.

But I guess, that if it makes you feel better, alternative medication or cures may help you. I do think that you need to see a doctor if you suspect that you do have a problem. I also think that you need to be skeptical of any "miracle" cure that someone offers you.

I believe in Music as medication for some things. For example, my family has a history of depression (and not the crys every once and a while stuff) and I think that music can be a huge help to keep you out of that. A happy song can lift me up from the very bottom.

But as for other sorts of things I don't really buy into them that much.

I've never taken any medication other than the normal pill most women have and antibiotics when needed.

I don't like to put that sort of thing into my body without a really good reason.

I have queried about taking medication for stress once before when I was going through a lot but the doctor talked me out of it and suggested I try eating heathier, exercising and listening to relaxation music which did work out for me.

I don't think it's a bad thing to take medication for such things if you really do need it and it does improve your lifestyle. I do however fear that you may get addicted to it unintentionally and just can't live without it.

I think it depends on your condition and the nature of the alternative treatment/medication. For example I don't think threes anything wrong with someone taking some herbal thing against hangovers and whatnot, but you shouldn't try and meditate your way out of stomach cancer.

So if you have any kind of ailment that is as much as halfway serious, I don't think you should do any sort of alternative treatment unless your doctor vouched that it's actually safe and that you do it in conjunction with conventional medical treatment. There are too many cynical fucks out there who are only out to line their own coffers and don't care about your well being http://www.dianetics.org/ :mokken:
