You really don't need all that much materia in this battle anyway. If your characters are souped up enough, you can easily go without the Underwater Materia thus eliminating the 20 minute timer.

The Aire Tam storm if you'd noticed is materia storm backwards. It has quite a high chance to miss which is why it doesn't always kill you even if you have enough materia for it to do 9999 damage.
