What makes for the best "kind" of Party in Final Fantasy games ?

1. How many members should the entire party consist of ?

2. How many members should fight at the same time ?

3. Should the entire party be formed soon in the game or take time ?

4. Should all the characters have links between one another ?

5. Should there be more, less or as many male and female characters ?

6. What should the average age of the party be ? ( youngest and oldest being ? )

7. Should there be secret characters ? ( if yes, how many ? )

8. Should some of your party members die before the end of the game ?

9. Should they eventually exceed the 9 999 points of damage and HP ?

10. Should each character have a specific sidequest made for them ?

11. Should they all be a specific class or should they be allowed to change ?

12. Should there be more than one non-human character ( if any ) ?

13. Should they all wield a different type of weapon ?

14. Should certain characters gain special abilities from working together ?

15. In the end, should they all have the same "ultimate" goal ?

Characters that have an interesting look, personality, background, connectivity with other characters and player.

1. I'm good with eight party members
2. four at the same time works pretty well
3. take time is much better, adds to the story
4. not obvious links, but subtle links like personality traits, connections in their hometowns, etc.
5. as many females is fine, so long as their personalities differ
6. average should be mid teens to early twenties i think
7. yes to secret characters, but only two at maximum
8. they should only die if it somehow improves the storyline, not just to be used as a stupid dramatic effect
9. no exceeding 9999, it takes away the challenge
10. not each character, that would be too much for game developers to keep up with, maybe just three or four characters
11. specific class, it creates the necessity for strategy
12. one non-human ONLY if it's not a Quen, stuffed cat, or rat
13. yes to different weapon, again, creates strategy and makes the characters actually unique
14. special abilities from working together is fine if it's like Steiner's magic sword from Vivi, but not goddamn quickenings
15. not same ultimate goal, making them all fight for different reasons makes them stand out from each other more

1. 9 (+2)

2. just three

3. Take time, maybe even multiple encounters before joining the party(á la magus (chrono trigger))

4. Yes, but subtle links, maybe some childhood friends or nephews or so

5. 4 (+1) male &
4 (+1) female and 1 non-human

6. 17 tot 32. the main character should be 20

7. yep 2,

8. No way hose, been there, done that... don't wanna cry no more

9. not with all attacks.. with some hard to obtain, expensive to use techniques

10. Yep, to get a little more in-depth about his personality

11. 2 specific jobs per character. but no overlapping with the classes. my FFXII team was only based on looks, because i could build the skills.. takes away so much depth...

12. One non-human, and it should get wings at some point in the game

13. absolutely. 2 weapon choices per character but no overlapping. range chara's should have 2 ranged weapon type choices

14. maybe if 2 characters have limit break, they can combine their powers... kill the quickening system

15. in the beginnening they have different goals, near the end they find out that the main cause is all because of one problem

1. I like a Medium sized party, not too large, not too big. so about 7-9 is perfect.

2. I'm fine with the classic 3 or 4 fighters at a time. although i prefer it when we can switch in the middle.

3. Soon in the game, i like picking my final 3/4 early on.

4. It would help, obviously since they're in the same party.

5. I would prefer it if the gender ratio was equal. but ever since FFIV theres always been 3 female characters only. and im fine if it stays that way.

6. Youngest 16 oldest 35

7. at least 2 secret characters, with 4 as the Most.

8. NO. Unless we can revive them. or someone inherits their abilities.

9. If its neccessary for the secret bosses. if not no. Game gets too boring then

10. Hell yeah, i wanna know more about my puppets. and they all deserve unique weapons.

11. Specific class but freedom to change if nessessary, like VII and X.

12. I think 1 is enough for non-human characters. more would make it too much.

13. Yes. otherwise its pointless. and lacks originality.

14. No, thats just silly. what if i dont like a character and intend to never use it (a la tifa) and THEN find out i have to use it to make my favourite character learn its ultimate move? not on.

15. I guess. although one with different views would be interesting..

1. How ever many are necessary for the story.

2. I like parties of four because you can balance them out better.

3. How ever it fits best for the story and as long as there is enough time for developement of characters introduced later in the game.

4. Between a few is ok, but between all them is a bit ridiculous, unless it's written well.

5. Again, how ever many are necessary for the story. FF seems to have a general rule of three.

6. Early twenties.

7. Secret characters can be fun. No more than two though.

8. Only if it fits the story. Not used for dramatic effect or just to do it.

9. No

10. It'd be a good idea. It gives a chance for good character development and can make a character more unique.

11. I find games more fun when characters have their own class. And it makes more sense since many of those classes would take years of training.

12. Again, if it's necessary for the story.

13. It makes games more interesting when characters have their own weapon.

14. Do you mean like double techs? Those are usually fun and more powerful than regular attacks.

15. It's makes for a better story if each character has their own separate goal. Then the focus isn't completely on the main character and side characters feel more important. It also adds to each of the characters and their not just there just because they can be.

1. I think 7 is perfect :)

2. 4 defently 4

3. Should take time

4. As long as they're all friend I ok ;)

5. I say that there should be an equal number of guys and girls. If the party number is odd then one member's gender should be unknown, like Vivi's

6. I don't think it's important about the age, as long as they're good at fighting

7. Secret characters? lol I would be happy with one or two

8. Defenetly! It's not fair for the bad guys!

9. Ofcourse. Maybe even more than that

10. yes.

11. mmm... Yeah I guess

12. one or two.

13. Duh. I mean how do you defet an element with a sword (don't answer that)

14. That would be fun. Yeah. Teamwork is important when you have to defeat a strong fiend

15. Not always.

1. 6 to 8 is fine.

2. 3 to 4. Not too picky.

3. It's better to form in the begining. It's annoying when a new character joins and they are several levels, and abilites behind the rest of the characters.

4. Some, but not all. It's interesting to find out links between some of the characters.

5. Half and half.

6. As young as 14 to as old as 50. It's odd to see a 8 year old warrior. ;/

7. No, secret characters are lame, unless they apply to the storyline.

8. No no no no. :(

9. Yes

10. That would be neat. Sure, a side quest for each character would be great. Each character can get special items that they can only equip.

11. I do prefer specific class. I don't want to deal with class changes all of the time. As for having a specific class I would prefer if they were balanced.

12. Elves and dwarfs are fine but nothing too extreme. FFXII took it too far with all of the races.

13. Yes, a few characters can wield the same type of weapon as other characters do. Saves gil. ;D

14. No, gets too complex.

15. Yes, they shouldn't join because they are bored. All the characters should have a goal.

1. How many members should the entire party consist of?

It depends on whether the fighting party consists of 4 fighters or 3. Obviously if it's 4, the total should be 8, and 6 if there's a fighting 3.

2. How many members should fight at the same time ?

4 is the best, in my opinion.

3. Should the entire party be formed soon in the game or take time ?

It should take time, but also the introduction of the last member of the party shouldn't be too far into the game, as was the case with Amarant and Eiko, in IX.

4. Should all the characters have links between one another ?

No. In my opinion, the less the characters know one another, or have different stories, the more interesting the game will become. Think coming from different walks of life, different backgrounds, that kind of thing.

5. Should there be more, less or as many male and female characters ?

There should be an equal amount.

6. What should the average age of the party be ? ( youngest and oldest being ? )

Youngest would have to be 16 for me, oldest 25. Well, in my ideal FF anyway, of course with the addition of a really old sage or wizard or something, the age would be no less than 50. A young party makes for a more vibrant party. ;)

7. Should there be secret characters ? ( if yes, how many ? )

Yes. 2. VII's worked to perfection, and it keeps the gamer interested, as finding the secret character may count as a sidequest.

8. Should some of your party members die before the end of the game ?

Yes. It sparks good debates for forums. :P
Yes though, it makes for a more realistic game.

9. Should they eventually exceed the 9 999 points of damage and HP ?

Yes, as long as the monsters grow more powerful exponentially from this damage and HP increase.

10. Should each character have a specific sidequest made for them ?

Yes, and ideally for the 6-8 member party only. Having too much makes the game a bit tedious.

11. Should they all be a specific class or should they be allowed to change ?

I tend to identify with changing classes, because having the same static class tends to limit the abilities learned by a specific character.
It would make for a more interesting game experience, allowing the user to be able to assemble the best party possible for different situations.
Flexible beats static.

12. Should there be more than one non-human character ( if any ) ?

No, just one should be fine.

13. Should they all wield a different type of weapon ?

Yes, of course, if they had the same weapons, it would look rather boring.

14. Should certain characters gain special abilities from working together ?

Yes, that increases the strategy value of the game: should you switch in this member to support this other member to win the battle?
That kind of thing.

15. In the end, should they all have the same "ultimate" goal ?

Diverging goals are interesting, but having too much just creates chaos in the plot.
So yes, but with a little sidetrack goal to match with one or two characters.

1. id say 8 is about perfect.

2. 3 members in battle

3. well i think that the characters vital to the story should arrive early on, and those less important (i.e. amarant) should be obtained whenever.

4. well they shouldnt have no reason to be there, so they would need reason to travel with eachother. but nothnig corny like growing up in the same orphanage.

5. 4 and 4.

6. 18-30. there always has to be a mature member to guide the young adults on their journey.

7. yesss, 1 per game.

8. no becuase then it just gets a little ridiculous, i like 9999 for all that.

9. it depends if they're likeable, and how strong they are or not...(i LOVED aeris and tellah was way too strong and important to my team to die.)

10. yeah thatd be nice, just to pick up a little more background info on them, maybe grab a cool weapon or ability.

11. i liked the idea of the materia system, where characters could be powered up as you wished. so no, no specific classes.

12. nah just one, they tend to be useless most of the time.

13. yes, most definitely.

14. no thank you.

15. well if theyre all traveling together, they usually end up with the same goal. so when it all comes down to it, yes.

1. No more than 10 total any more and it’d probably become a burden leveling all the party members up, IMO.

2. 3 maybe 4 tops…

3. Early on, as long as it’s within the first quarter of the game…

4. Only if it suits the storyline.

5. I like a like a well balanced party of Male and Female characters, FF is usually pretty well balanced on that aspect.

6. Ahhh, 18 - 40 tops.

7. One, maybe two at the most.

8. Only if appropriate to the storyline… However… No.

9. Hell yes!

10. Yes, one that help develop their character a little more would be nice.

11. I like the freedom of being able to change them to whatever class I want them to be.

12. Doesn’t really matter, Mostly human if had to choose, with a few non-human.

13. Most definitely yes, with the ability for all to be equipped with the same weapon, if desired…

14. Yes, that’s one of the things I liked about using Vivi and Steiner together in IX.

15. Yes, since it tends always ends up that way.
