Jade Goody could be immortalised by a statue in Bermondsey, it has emerged.
A number of fans have written to council heads and urged them to commemorate the reality TV star, who died last week, The Mirror reports.
Community council chair Bob Skelly said: "The council has plans for the Dickens Estate area where Jade grew up, and I'm sure we could do something."
Publicist Max Clifford said: "It's wonderful news."
It is thought that a statue or blue plaque could be installed to recognise the effort Goody made to raise awareness of cervical cancer.

I really REALLY hope this is an April fools joke, otherwise what the FUCK is the world coming to? Wouldn't the money be better spent on cancer research. Fucking retards. WHY would she deserve a statue? :gasp:

Although I think it's cruel that Jade Goody died, and I recognize that she brought awareness about cervical cancer to younger women, I think a statue would be a little TOO far. One would have thought that statues are only for famous politicians, or those who served their country - like Nelson - you know, people who will be in HISTORY books.

In 30 years time, that statue would be meaningless...

A statue would be over the top. Sure, she raised awareness of cervical cancer and stuff, but she doesn't deserve a statue. She's not the only woman in the world who has died in that manner, but the others don't get statues. Jade was nothing special. She was just a regular person who seemed to be really dumb. Sure, her fame from reality tv and willingness to be recorded in her frail state helped to raise awareness, but to most, she's just another woman who has died a horrible death because of cancer. The money really does need to go into cancer research to try and prevent this happening to other women.

And think about it....would SHE really want money wasted on a statue? I'm just guessing, but I'm sure she'd prefer the money be used wisely.

I agree with you completely. Especially at your last sentence. Hasn't anyone thought about that? A statue is definitely way too over the top.

I was told this and was so angry! Its a complete and utter joke. The woman didnt really do much when she was alive, excpet for making women more aware of cancer. But she was a racist and suddnely found God on her death bed. I feel bad for saying it but she doesnt deserve a statue for God sake. The woman was no saint and this is going too far in my opinion.

My ex's grandmother died due to cancer, as have many, many other women. Make statues of them then aswell!!

Jane would want the money to go to a cause that needs it, like a foundation dedicated to curing the disease that actually took her life. I don't think she would like a statue. Besides, why not give Steve Irwin a statue if you're giving a reality tv star one?

They're also on about making a musical of her life, including having a reality TV show to find the star who could play Jade :omg:

This is the biggest over-reaction to anything since Susan Boyle, really. A musical and a reality show? A statue might seem low, but compared to a musical, it's fantastic.

Let's be honest, she's deserves shite all, she's done nothing to deserve it. Yes, she may have raised awareness to cancer, but would she have done half as much to do so, if anything, had she not caught cancer? I think not. And like Kelly has said, it would be much better if they just donated money to cancer research rather that wasting money on a shitty statue on a racist who no one cared about until she caught cancer, and still the majority of people hate her.

If they insist on statues, make one for someone who has done something worthwhile. :monster:

Funny how the people who get praised for raising awareness of diseases/illness are people who actually got the illness.

Before Jade got cancer, she never mentioned anything about it pubicly once.

Yet there's countless numbers of people out there who work to help raise awareness, or look to find treatments/cures who have never had any real connection to it directly, and they never get any recognition.

Obiously awareness is important no matter who is raising it, but what makes Jade more deserving of this than someone who's worked their entire life to help this cause?

Y'know, that's the world we live in. The rich build statues of themselves, buy bed sheets for $25,000, purchase ultrasound machines to see inside their wife's womb, own six yachts and a private island, and run evil mega-businesses like Square-Enix and Disney.

The poor, on the other hand, simply wonder why they they're not getting paid enough to feed a family.

It's just a statue, it's no big deal. If you travel across any country, you will find plenty of monuments and statues erected for people and events whose relevance and impact didn't go any further than the local community. If they were to erect a statue of Jade Goody, I'm sure it would be a pretty low key one in a small park somewhere. It's not as if they're going to erect a 200 feet tall statue in the middle of the Thames, Statue of Liberty style. I'm not saying that she deserves one, but I do think that people put a little too much into it.

Where Jane Goody is going a statue won't help her. Like Bambi said I think they should just donate the money to cancer research. Building a statue is quite pointless and a waste of time, money, and effort.

We have too many statues anyway. :wacky:

You can buy bed sheets for $25,000!!!!!! What are they made of? unicorn hair? Also if that's how much the sheets cost, how much will the statue cost! :P

A statue would only be a good idea if it was a grant or something, not money directly taken out of whatever fund she set up before her passing. I also don't think it should be of her. Maybe just have the logo on it or something, maybe something more inspiring than Jade Goody with 'her kebab' out.
