95 subaru legacy wagon question

hey all.

My 95 Subaru Legacy wagon has been having problems(again).

Underneath my air filter there is this 6" metal box and it keeps running until it drains my battery.

I was wondering what that part is and how much a new one would cost.

(Also I unplugged it from the bracket that it was plugged into and also wonder if it is bad for that to be not connected to a power supply)

By air filter you mean the intake - the box thing on the left?

I would guess its related to the air conditioning...

Your best bet would probably be to visit an automotive forum and ask someone who has actually worked on a subaru legacy before.. Unlike me.
