Square Enix has quitely confirmed that the previously-promised new trailer for Final Fantasy XIV will skip E3 and now be revealed instead in August as part of a larger marketing campaign.

A previous 'Roadmap' for FF14's version 2.0 pinpointed Version 1.23 launching in late April and a new trailer for the title being released during E3 2012, which takes place next week.

We already know that the late April launch for 1.23 has now been and gone - but a new Roadmap, released today, reveals that Version 1.23 will launch instead in mid-June. The trailer, meanwhile, will wait until August, when it'll launch alongside a full marketing campaign for Version 2.0.

These changes don't appear to have delayed the intended date for the game to upgrade to Version 2.0 in October or the Beta or Launch windows for the PS3 version of the game.

FF14 will still have some presence at E3 2012 - Yoshida will be there and we're getting a chance to sit down and chat to him again - but a trailer won't be part of that package. If you want to know more about his vision for the future of FF14, we've got an epic two-part interview from his first press tour in the role of the game's producer.

Since having a disasterous launch Square Enix has been keeping fans pliant and happy by being very honest with them - something new Producer Naoki Yoshida told us was vital in order to "slowly rebuild that trust" that'd been lost between the developer and players in FF14's launch period. Releasing these roadmap documents, usually kept internal, is a vital part of that.

Our only real glimpse of 2.0 so far is in the form of a concept screenshot which pictures a much more dynamic looking game, which we've bunged below.

I've never played one of the Final Fantasy MMORPG's, but I am kind of intrigued to see what it would be like. The idea of playing an FF game with other fans is awesome, but I'm a bit dubious as to how it would play.

The screenshot above highlights what I'd be concerned about - look at it. There's so much going on! Granted, the graphics look fantastic, but I think the feeling of a battle would be lost in such a mammoth fight.

That's just my opinion, but I guess it's just because I'm more of a fan of the pre-FFXI's with the tradition battle system.

I'm pretty interested in what all they will be changing in FFXIV 2.0

I played the game on launch and then again a few months ago when they released the job system. It was okay, but not really what I was expecting. But I'll probably give it one more shot when 2.0 releases.

[28/05] What Do Players Like Most About Final Fantasy XIV?

Square Enix are preparing to kick off promotions for Final Fantasy XIV version 2.0, producer, Naoki Yoshida, reports in his periodical “Letter from the Producer” column. The game’s public reveal will begin at E3 this year, following which, Square will put up a new website for the game, featuring world lore, characters, system and content updates.

Yoshida says that a new trailer for version 2.0 was going to be shown at E3 this year, but that they’ve decided to keep it under wraps for now, even though the trailer is complete. Yoshida says that this is because they’d rather release a flood of information on the game all at once, rather than a slow trickle.

Yoshida then goes on to reveal the results of a player poll Square recently conducted. The poll asked questions such as which classes players prefer, how long they spend playing the game, what they like about it and so on. That last one in particular is interesting. Here’s how players responded to it:

The promise of version 2.0 won the poll for what players like best about Final Fantasy XIV, followed closely by the quality of the game’s characters. In light of this, Yoshida took the opportunity to remind readers that the development team are producing version 2.0 with the idea of making it “more FF-y” as its theme.

Finally, prior to version 2.0’s release, a few more patches are expected for the current version of Final Fantasy XIV. Patch 1.22b is scheduled for release in early June. Yoshida promises a lot of content for the patch and says that a third patch, 1.22c, will be the final patch in the 1.22 series. In the meantime, the team is also at work on content for patch 1.23.
