There's plenty to do in Dragon Quest X even when you're not out battling Slimes with your fellow online party members. Square Enix detailed a couple of side offerings today: housing and medal collection.

Housing

We previously detailed the "residential area" that exists in each of the game's major cities. You can purchase a lot of land in one of these areas and ask the property manager to help you build a house.

The residential areas have all the things you'd need for life in a Dragon Quest game, including a church. There's also a bazaar and a post office. As the game's audience grows, the area will expand to include many streets.

Building your house involves purchasing a house kit. You'll also want to obtain furniture parts from around town and other lands. When deciding on your house's internal layout and external appearance, you may want to enlist the help of experts from around town.

Medal Collection
As you explore the world of Dragon Quest X, you'll find mysterious items known as "Small Medals." If you find one these, take them to the "Medal Owner," a person who collects medals and lives on his very own island. In exchange for your medals, the Medal Owner will give you precious items that could aid in your quest.

It saddens me a lot how low res the graphics look when compared to Dragon Quest VIII :sad2: Some of the features sound interesting, but the best part of DQVIII was its art style, and I don't think it's the screenshots causing it to look bad. Hopefully the Wii U version looks good :x

[06/04] Square Enix Planning Demo Event For Dragon Quest X

The Dragon Quest X beta won't be your only way to sample Square Enix's great online experiment in advance. The publisher announced today a series of demo events to be held at malls in Tokyo, Fukuoka and Aichi starting later this month.

The demo events are meant to introduce DQX to more players than the beta. Square Enix will have beta test stations set up for play, complete with instructors on hand to explain the basics. The events will also have stage shows. Those who sample the game or view the stage show will receive a Slime cleaning strap.

Visit the event page for a schedule.

[25/04] Dragon Quest X: Alchemy Job Screenshots

Our latest screenshot blast for Dragon Quest X shows the game's Alchemy job. Taking over once Blacksmiths are done crafting weapons, Alchemists strengthen weapons using two types of alchemy, Jar Alchemy and Lamp Alchemy.
Guild houses for the two types of Alchemy.

Jar Alchemy can add special attack properties like "attack strength up" to your weapons. This type of alchemy is performed by placing items in a jar and playing a mini game of roulette on the jar's top. Your alchemy attempt will be successful if the roulette wheel lands in the "success" slot.

Lamp Alchemy is used for adding magic-based effects to weapons -- things like giving a weapon sleep properties which make enemies sleep when struck. Like the Jar Alchemy, Lamp Alchemy is performed via roulette.

While the inclusion of a roulette may make the Alchemy job seem like all luck, there's actually some skill involved. As your character rises in his Alchemist level, you'll gain access to special skills which can effect the roulette outcome. Skills include the ability to add success slots and predict the result of upcoming spins.

[01/05] Dragon Quest X: More Puku Land Sights and Characters

quare Enix is still in Puku mode for Dragon Quest X. Following an initial introduction to some principle Puku Land residents last month, this week's update includes a tour around Puku Land itself, and a look at two key key characters from the continent.
The tour of Puku Land includes looks at such areas as Pukulet, Popola, Rinkulu and its lake, Orfea, and the major city of Megistrorys which is home to the royal family. In the distance of the Megistrorys shot (the one with the evening sky), you can see one of Puku Land's major landmarks, the Kira Kira Windmill Tower.

New characters include Forsteel, the legendary hero who's known throughout Megistrorys, and Queen Arwe and her son, Prince Raguas.
