First unveiled at Gamescom, Gun Loco was one of Square Enix’s riskier games. Defined as a sprint action shooter, Gun Loco had players run, slide, and shoot each other. The game was set on a prison planet with wacky inmates and used plastic models as the base for the character models. A playable build was shown at Tokyo Game Show last year.

Gun Loco was slated for release only on Xbox 360 this year, but the game won’t be released. Square Enix announced today development on Gun Loco has ceased. No specific reason was given regarding why the game has been canceled. I suppose the winner(s?) of theme song contest will be the most bummed to hear the news.

First time I'm hearing about this, it kinda sounded cool, though. so this stinks :/

No reason for cancelling this? That's odd. At least when Disaster Report 4 was cancelled there was a reason (in the context of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami disaster, the reason for that seemed obvious though heavy-handed). Of course, not that Gun Loco seemed like it had anything that could be related to natural disasters etc. of course, but it could be possible that with the state of development companies in Japan now they decide to drastically cut back on things. Cancelling a whole game though that is so late into a development process is just odd considering all the work thrown in. Delays I can buy, but complete cancellations? Oh well, the real reason could be something else entirely, Who knows.
