Until now, every screenshot and in-game image of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn was taken at 1100 hours in the game’s day/night cycle. Now that the game’s beta testing phase approaches next month, localization manager Fernehalwes treated us to a sneak peek of the game’s night cycle in Gridana with different phases of Hydaelyn’s moon.

In Final Fantasy XI, you could gain a crafting bonus by facing a certain direction during the game’s element-phased calendar. Mr. Fernehalwes seemed to hint that this may return — so I’ll just insert the old standby of “please look forward to it” for his sake.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn’s PC beta phase is scheduled to begin in mid-February, with the PS3 test coming later this spring.

this actually looks really awesome... it's making me want to get it but ughhhhhh I hate pay to play....:( I'm not a big MMO fan either but I reckon I might change my tune when this comes out....good bye life!

I fear this isn't going to have as near as much pull as they're hoping it's going to have. P2P MMOs are a dying breed. There are going to be a couple of exceptions, WoW will never go F2P for a long time because of how much pull it has. EVE can't go F2P or the community will shit a fucking castle. But in a market where you have F2P options like GW2 (which is doing remarkably well) and SW:TOR, no one is going to want to pay for a new MMO, especially not one that failed once before. SE can try what they like, but unless they drop that P2P burden, it's just going to flop again.
