Nothing. It set the foundation for the rest of the series. It's very simplistic, which is awesome. The original had its bugs, yeah, but who cares? It wasn't gonna be perfect back in the late 80s (or is it early 90s?).

That's not always a bad thing, nor is it a absolute necessity for most games in general. I was definitely fine with it.

My favorite of the numbered series, followed by XII. (X-2, though, is not on the list at all.)

The first playthrough was a tad over 40 hours; didn't do much for side quests and whatnot. Just wanted to experience the story. On the subsequent playthroughs, though, I was pushing 150 to 170 hours. Took my sweet time, and tried everything. The hunts took a nice bit of time.

Gimme a good shop, please and thanks. Make us members earn every little thing. Ha. Seriously though, the shop system is awesome and flexible. Kudos.
