Last time I checked, you can go back at some place later in the game using the save sphere. That is what Cid and his aircraft came for. Also, you don't need to beat the game to unlock the sidequest in FFX. Dark Aeons are example.

It's bad. It's just a horrible 3d movie with a FF name slapped on it. It doesn't even represent anything in the series except the name "Cid". At least the Unlimited series represent some elements from the series.
