TACTICS. I'm surprised no one has mentioned it. Heaps of war and moral ambiguity. Your primary enemies are your best friend and the founder of the prevailing religion. I mean.
Otherwise: VI definitely has its bleak moments, but it also swings back to being cheerful and at times downright...
I had this experience with both VIII and IX.
VIII I quit about halfway through in a fit of nerd rage. I didn't get the junction system so I ended up just spamming summons. Plus the plot got really stupid somewhere in the 2nd disc, and Squall became a loser, pining over Rinoa. I came back some...
VIII all the way. I mean, VIII's opening cutscene is arguably better than the game itself, and I like VIII. It has this epic, movie trailer feel, and I am a sucker for a good trailer.
X gets an honorable mention, with the blitzball/Sin attack scene. Very pretty and so different from most of...
Quistis! A bespectacled lady badass should have pushed a lot of my happy buttons, but she's in love with Squall, then she isn't, and that's about all she gets.
Also, the entire cast of XII. Most of them had so much potential, but approximately no time in that game is devoted to character...
1) The games are mostly about menu-based combat, i.e. you enter a command and your character/characters do it. This makes the gameplay more about strategy than about skill. Otherwise, it varies from game to game.
2) There are lots of cutscenes, yes, except in the early games. The plot is a big...
A song can make you think of just about anything. That's one of the awesome things about music. But I don't think there's an actual connection. These are all a stretch at best.
The band's name does make me think of FFVIII, Timber, and the Forest Owls, however. Maybe that's just me.
The first time I played VIII, I stopped about halfway through because I couldn't stand Rinoa. She was immature, and annoying, and I could get past those if only she wasn't also stupid. I loved Squall, (I'm weird, I know) and their romance just didn't make any sense to me. I eventually went back...
Do I have to pick one?
Irvine Kinneas. He is so very pretty. Laguna is also quite handsome. VIII really had the male eye candy going on. Yeah, I have a thing for guys with pretty hair, which means Sephiroth also makes it onto this list, though I would not touch that even in my imagination...
I voted The Spring, but I'm slightly conflicted about it.
I like the song better in X-2, and it is a very powerful scene. But... the circumstances it takes place in are so ridiculous. It's essentially like a concert for world peace actually bringing about world peace in the real world. Ummm, no...
Braska was simply the most recent to do it. A lot of people would remember when he defeated Sin and owe him some personal gratitude. The others would be more like historical figures or legends. Most people would recognize their names, but they wouldn't really mean anything to them.
Don't make any more MMOs!
Well, okay, you can make MMOs, I understand that they give you a license to print money, but don't make them Roman numeraled Final Fantasy games. I am morally opposed to buying a game that I can never really own, that I have to pay you for every month, that has very...
Hmm. I'm trying a replay of the entire series right now. I'm on VIII. And I have to say, the NES titles make everything else look easy. Yeah, even IV and V. Both those games have some pretty tough moments, but if you know what's coming, grind a little and prepare for them, you can take them...
I'll preorder it, just in case. I'm pretty excited for it, and I know the day it comes out I will be extremely sad if other people are playing it and I am not.
They moved up the date for X unexpectedly, and I talked to the people in Gamestop then, and they only had around four copies left that...
The way I understood it, all the people in Zanarkand were real people, they were just made and sustained by the dreams of the fayth. So they could live and die like anybody else. Does that make sense?
XII is much much easier than Tactics. It took me seven years to beat Tactics! I beat XII in... a couple of weeks? A month, maybe? Some of the side stuff in XII is extremely tough, however, I didn't do most of it.
I was always reluctant to level up in Tactics, because time passes in the game. I...
My first thought was "in what universe is Kuja straight?"
But... except for the characters that are in canonical relationships, and those that try to be ladies' men, they could be anything you want them to be. And isn't that really for the best? I wouldn't mind seeing two secondary party...
Really, Sin/Yu Yevon is the main villain. But X is lot different than the rest of the FFs, in that there's not a really strong antagonist anywhere. Hey, people who don't like X much, does that factor in somehow?
Seymour is a lot closer to the main villain than Jecht is, however, but even then...
It's a great game, and if you have the money to spend on something for yourself, I think it would be worth it (that's about what a new game costs these days).
Also, if you have a PS3 or a PSP, you can download it from Sony for $9.99
What was it missing? Innovation. It didn't do anything that some other FF hadn't done before. It's still a good game, but because of that it's nothing special, you know?
Plus the art style probably put a lot of people off, yeah.
